I got an email this morning about the next gen device, the communicator. This will have a front screen and cameras to make it easier to function as a phone. My gemini is wifi only (very happy with it), but I recall reading that certain networks in the US won't let the device function on their networks even with SIM cards, as the device had to be 'approved'. This seems to be a deal breaker for the device as a  phone. has there been any news on this front regarding the device on US networks, such as T Mobile or Verizon?

I live in New York and have an X27 on the AT&T network.  I had no problem activating the Sim or adding it to my other devices on my AT&T account.

reading more on this topic it seems as though verizon is the challenging carrier, although T Mobile are having 'frequency' use issues.

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / X25/27 and firmware update
« on: November 05, 2018, 07:12:51 pm »
I have a wifi only model. It would persistently shown a grayed out SIM card icon at the top of my screen, alongside wifi signal icon etc.
This puzzled me as my model is wifi only.
After the recent firmware update (october), this grayed out SIM card icon has finally vanished.
Just to let folk know.
Firmware update went very smoothly. My PDA still functions.

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / DisplayLink?
« on: November 05, 2018, 07:08:42 pm »
I tried installing DisplayLink and hooking the Gemini upto a Sentio SuperBook (essentially a clamshell monitor and keyboard that should mirror a phone via a USB-C port using DisplayLink).
I had no luck with either of the USB ports on the gemini PDA. Has anyone else tried this or something similar?

At the time of ordering my Gemini PDA I also ordered the leather wallet and connectivity kit. The PDA arrived, its great, I love it. But the other accessories  never arrived. I was then told by Gemini that they would be shipping end of august. Well, here we are, and I am getting no responses from Gemini nor am I seeing my order/paid for items. What are other folk's experiences?

Gemini PDA - Android / SD card being recognised?

I installed a small SD card. Various file managers recognize and read the card. But VLC will not allow me to add the card to it's recognized directories.
I then also noticed that in the list of notification icons across the top of the screen, the SD card icon is greyed out and has a diagonal line through it, suggesting that at some level the system isn't recognizing the card as mounted. But, as i said, I can certainly read the card using various file manager apps and view stuff on the card. I even downloaded files to the card from the cloud, and can have 'amazon music' play files from the card. So what gives? Am I misreading the notification icons?

I just tried now - I can see the SD card, first time I started VLC I got this message and clicked on "YES"
 [ Invalid Attachment ]

Then I see it in the "Directories" menu of VLC
 [ Invalid Attachment ]

How have you formatted it - there seem to be some issue with "internal" format - see here:

I formatted it in another android device, where it was being used as external storage. i suppose i could re-format it in Gemini Android?

I am using the Gemini with its stock android. I downloaded my various media apps (Netflix, Amazon Prime Video etc). I then used my home wifi to download a few episodes of shows and watched them off line using headphones and an aux cable. Very pleasant experience. This will be very useful for plane travel and general business travel, where I can watch my own library. The screen coped well, and the audio quality was fine.
I did have a few issues with bluetooth connection to the headphones. I couldn't actually 'find' my headphones, but on a plane I use aux cables anyway.
I also managed to connect easily to a SanDisk wireless thumb drive (SanDisk 128GB Connect Wireless Stick Flash Drive - SDWS4-128G-G46) with my music library using the standard SanDisk app. The SanDisk app comes with a simple music player built in. I can also stream from amazon and google music player when I am online. I will be loading some music locally via the SD drive for offline music appreciation.
I have found that only some standard thumb drives can be connected and recognized by the PDA using a standard USB-C/USB adapter (UGREEN USB C to USB 3.0 OTG Adapter Cable ), and folks may have to empirically determine which thumb drives work best for them. But overall, this is turning into a nice little travel media player.

Just got confirmation from Planet that these items were over-ordered and the orders will be back-filled as soon as is feasible.

My Gemini PDA arrived (in the US) this week. But I did not receive the leather pouch or connectivity kit which I had ordered as perks. The perk tracker seems to suggest that these shipped with the device (they did not).  I have reached out to Planet seeking clarity. What are other experiences from folk? Did the perks arrive separately? Did they arrive at the same time?
