Gemini PDA - Android / Displaylink and Android 8.1

I didn't order one of the video out cables when first purchasing my Gemini, but bought a USB-C to HDMI Displaylink adapter. This worked perfectly with the Gemini when it was on Android 7.1.1 (though I didn't use it much). I've now upgraded to 8.1, and notice that it no longer works.

The two versions of Displaylink app install and run ok - they recognize the adapter being plugged in, but nothing is output to the TV. By default, the Displaylink outputs a 1920x1080 image. The adapter works fine with other Android devices, e.g. my phone running Android Pie.

Does anyone else have experience with this?
I'm also interested to know if somebody has tested Miracast to Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter v2 on Android 8.1. I never got HDMI out working with official cable from Planet Computer, but solved with MS wireless adapter which work fine. Not gonna break this setup with firmware upgrade for now.

Well I have succeeded in using Miracast with a Roku - but not perfect results: the image is automatically rotated into portrait clockwise. I can get it momentarily to rotate into upside down landscape, but not persistently so. Interested to know if there are tweaks one can apply to the Miracast output to deal with this.
During SailfishOS upgrade I managed to lost my Android 7.1 partition. While there's no Alien Dalvik support for Gemini PDA, I did flash to Android 8.1.
Miracast to MS Display Adapter works. But when switching to full screen mode (e.g. on NetFlix or other app) picture is rotated by 90 deg anticlockwise from landscape to portrait. Not very useful.
I noticed that changing device screen size will cause permanent picture rotation also. But have not tried if there is some custom dp value that do not cause pic rotation on full screen mode.

Screen parameters can be controlled via adb, but it will require root access.

Gemini PDA - Android / AirMail send fails
« on: August 27, 2019, 09:40:05 am »
This was solved by *not* using google smtp. But for the clarity, it worked long time (year or so), and when the problem started it happened in both wifi and mobile connections.
I noticed logging options but never find log files.

Gemini PDA - Android / AirMail send fails
« on: August 10, 2019, 03:17:50 am »
Hi,
I have used AirMail successfully until now. I have couple of Google account and some others also.
Sending emails from google account fails every now and then, and there's no way to get message send but needs to be deleted.

Sending from another account works fine, so it seems to be related to google. But is there any log files to check what is going on?

BR,
Wille

Gemini PDA - Sailfish OS / Sailfish X

Just bought it after seeing the press release:

https://jolla.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/0...4860&x54860

https://shop.jolla.com/

It is not that different from the community edition, but I like to show my support, and to stay in the loop
I did the same, I have used Sailfish OS from version 1. But Android support is mandatory to me, so I have to boot to Android every now and then.

But there is a problem: Official Sailfish OS is available for the default (boot 1) option only. That's good, but I have setup where Android is 1st and Sailfish was 2nd boot, as there was no any other choice until today.

I don't want to delete my Android partition, so is there any way to use existing order and keep Android untouched?

Anyone installed Sailfish 3 Beta CE available in http://support.planetcom.co.uk/partitionTool.html, is it the same 3.0.1.11?

Gemini PDA - Hardware / Keyboard partly dead

Bad luck

I don't know exactly where to look.  But a general principle for gadgets and machinery is that the moving parts are the most likely to have trouble.  The Gemini's moving part is the hinge, and what surrounds it.  In particular, there are almost certainly ribbon cable(s) carrying power and signals to/from the keyboard, ports, &c -- cables which flex every time the Gemini is opened or closed.  Those seem the most likely sources of trouble.

(I'm also drawing on years of experience with Psions: hinge mechanisms and the connectors around them were always the weak points.)

First thing I'd suggest is to contact Planet; it seems they can be quite generous when it comes to troubled units.

Otherwise, I'd try removing the top panel, bottom panel, and hinge panel, and try to make sure the ribbon(s) have their ends firmly seated, &c.

And I hope you get it sorted!
I contacted Planet and they suggested to send device for service.
Before doing that I'd like to get backup from userdata partition. I can see that flash tool supports readback but can it be used to retrieve userdata from the device to disk and restore back afterwards? It requires begin address and length, so can I use begin address as stated in Download tab for userdata? Length needs to be calculated..

Gemini PDA - Hardware / Keyboard partly dead
« on: January 11, 2019, 12:04:26 pm »
Suddenly part of keyboard went dead. Numbers from 1-7 and sometimes also letters from q to y (now seems to work). Perhaps  loose connector, but where to start looking for it? I'm not counting device has any warranty to cover this...

Gemini PDA - Android / Handsfree connected to CARD 2
« on: January 02, 2019, 12:49:45 pm »
My car audio / HF system shows BT connection to CARD2 which is eSIM I think, and not in use.
How do I change it to connect CARD1 instead?

I have been testing SFOS 2.1.3.7 on my Gemini PDA for a little over a week now as my main OS.
I finally got SFOS flashed (e.g. hanged in tutorial - not able to swipe back from gallery app). But now I can't see any phone settings, no mobile network selection nor SIM subfolder in Settings. No signal strength indicator either. And yes, I have working SIM card inserted and funtion in Android side.

SFOS 2.1.4.14 / 0.0.1+master.20180425220752.e3d6f1b.1 (reported by SFOS About product).

I have x27 version, and dual boot with 16GB Android / 40GB Linux split.

There's no 'Mobile network', 'SIM cards' or 'Internet sharing' selections between WLAN and VPN, where those supposed to be. Why's that?

. Need more investigation.

Edit: It seems ofono service can/should be disabled and some other service launced it. Anyhow, now I can receive sms, but not make calls. It says 'No network coverage' when trying to make a call.

SSH is not enabled, what is strange when developer mode is enabled by the default.
To fix it
- Set/check your ssh password in Developer tools page under Settings
- Open terminal and enter:

Code: [Select]
su-devel
systemctl enable sshd
systemctl start sshd

Gemini PDA - Sailfish OS / First time Sailfish user... Questions

Greetings,

I just went through the process of booting Sailfish OS for the first time -- Selected locale, language, set up wifi, created jolla account, accepted terms. All seemed to go swimmingly. However, now I'm left with a rotating teal ring, and things do not seem to be progressing. Any ideas as to what is currently happening?

Thank you,
Mike
I'm in the same situation. I think it is somehow related to device locking - it should show keypad for pin code but it don't.
I didn't set code on startup but set it later, and after automatic lockout period it won't wake up but showing this circle.
Reboot didn't help as it is waiting device to be unlocked.

Second hint is notification if you connect charger, It says something like unlock your device first.

But no idea how to fix this. Workaround would be not to set device lock code at all.

Gemini PDA - Sailfish OS / unlocking the screen?
« on: June 26, 2018, 01:20:04 pm »
Quote from: jutleys
You did not start the setup process by selecting a language, I'm guessing.
I had the same issue, turns out your device cannot be unlocked when you don't get the 'Select a language'-screen.

FIX:
1) Reflash linux.img and salfishos_boot.img
2) Boot into Sailfish, hold device in portrait mode ('Esc'-button on bottom)
3) Wait a few seconds for screen to go black, hit 'Fn + Esc' (power combo)
4) It should now show the 'Select a language screen'.
5) Start setup from there, it will boot into Sailfish OS afterwards.

Lockscreen might still be a revolving circle, but it will be dismissable by swiping from the left.
I have to keep device in portrait until end of tutorial and then swiping from the left to unlock device.
But still, no mobile functions available. Or even settings. Are those removed from the image? Can't use this as a phone .
