- The Factory Reset does not work on Android 8 - we are investigating this
That's quiet a biggy if you were wanting to pass your Gemini on!  I guess you would have to use the partition tool to wipe in some way.

In other news is anyone finding 8.1 laggy and the 'x app is using battery' notification annoying?  I notice now the Planet Computer apps come built in meaning you can't uninstall, just disable, very unhelpful.  Oh and the app bar doesn't spread the icons evenly anymore, they are all bunched left.
I'd just do a proper wipe using the Mediatek tool if that was necessary. I don't remember being able to uninstall any of the bloatware in previous versions without rooting but there is enough space on the Gemini for it not to be a real issue.
For me the important is being able to use my German keyboard properly for the first time in nearly a year.

Finally full update instructions for x25/x27 with 4G. No download yet for wifi-only
Download: http://support.planetcom.co.uk/index.php/G...droid_8_Upgrade
Update worked fine on my x25.

Same here.

I saw the promising square and the "Firmware upgrade detected" yesterday morning. But I needed to leave (thus without wifi).
Back home, with wifi, the Gemini states that it has the latest update, Android 7.1.
Update has, apparently, definitely been pulled. We might get an update tomorrow. Or we might not.

FWIW my Gemini said last night that there was new firmware available. The support page has been updated but not the firmware one. Looks like the OTA has since been removed because today the Gemini says there is nothing new available.

I used Planet's tool to set up multi-boot, which gave me a scatter file.  Has anyone else tried using one of these in combination with the OTA.zip (which, TBH, I'd love to get my paws on) to manually apply the upgrade?  If so - does it work?

Rosie
Yes, I tried it and it doesn't work. Turns out the OTA comes with its own scatter file. I couldn't get it to download so had to do a firmware update but that worked fine. You can deduce the URL for the OTA from the release date and using FOTA4. I'm going to start documenting my experiences using DVCS because I think Planet's wiki approach, while well intended, is fatally flawed.

If you look at the OTA.zip file, it consists of various .dat files (which are the block patches) and a few .img files.  Only the img files can be used as-is.  So no, it's only the device drivers that I have been able to update.
I don't know enough about altering scatter files to make it fit or why substituting the rooted boot image breaks an OTA-updated installation.
How are you getting the OTA.zip file? It stubbornly fails to copy to SD for me and I can't access /cache. If I could get the file I could do a manual flash. Update Planet have provided me with links to the OTAs but asked not to make them public. Unfortunately, the instructions on the wiki don't work as advertised because there is a problem with the scatter file so you have to wipe the user partition.

Update will not install on my vanilla x25. Although the installer says the file is valid after reboot I get a message saying the file is defective. Can't investigate the file myself because not rooted and the option to copy to the SD card doesn't work. Reported to Planet last week and still waiting for a fix. :-(

Handling of OTAs is a mes! Reflected in the lack of updates to the support website. It's especially annoying not being able to use OTA zips with something like TWRP.
