Accessories / Sd Card As Main Storage For C3000

Hello,

I plan to move all my user files to a 4GB SD card and use the internal Microdrice only for MP3 (if at all) and of course for OS and program data (hdd1, hdd2).

Unless things have majorly changed since I last checked, any SD cards larger than 1GB will not work on the zaurus. The larger cards use a different proprietary encryption scheme which doesn't have an open driver yet. The new DRM isn't something you can just not use, but will prevent the card from working at all and cause other things to glitch up whenever the card is inserted.

I don't know whether this bug affects the larger MMC cards, but those may be an option if you don't care about the DRM (which almost noone does). But before investing in one, I would highly recommend trying the specific card out to see if it works on your zaurus. Shop around till you find a store that'll let you test them.

Security and Networking / Hostap On Sharp Rom 1.01 Jp?

you can use the cacko crosscompiler an kernel 2.4.20 for do a kernel with hostap support. I'm now using OZ  but you can copy the cacko scripts and kernel (testu?) for the sharp rom.... I prefer the cacko rom... you not?

I have a crosscompiler (OSX->Zaurus) which seems to work. I've never done much crosscompiling work so the issues've been more of ferreting out which parts of makefiles etc need reconfiguring :)

As I mentioned, part of the problem -- either compiling locally or crosscompiling -- is that the /lib/modules/2.4.20/build/ directory is missing on the z and there's a file in there that the hostap makefile is expecting to include. I can try taking a look at Cacko or OZ to see if they have a reasonably approximate version of that directory.

It's not that I disprefer cacko, I haven't actually looked at it much. It's more that I don't have an sd/mmc card to switch it (temporary) and that -- shamed to admit it -- I'd like to keep around some of the proprietary software that comes with the Sharp rom. Also, I'm working on some development for the z so I'd like to keep a factory rom around for testing on. (Thirdly, I have mine set up to do a japanese-english hybrid localization, how are cacko and oz for that? I don't know.)

Security and Networking / Hostap On Sharp Rom 1.01 Jp?

So I got a new Zonet ZCF1100 that I'm trying to get set up. It's been "discussed to death" on these boards, but the solution requires hostap which doesn't ship with the Sharp rom, only with OZ and Cacko. Until I get the cash for an SD/MMC card (y'know, one that works instead of my 2GB one  I can't really switch roms, so I'm wondering if anyone's gotten hostap to compile on SL-C3100 + Sharp 1.01 JP or the equivalent?

I've made a few steps towards trying it but I've run into a few (annoyingly administrative) problems. Such as /lib/modules/2.4.20/build/ and the .config underneath it don't exist, but the makefile expects them. And my somewhat stripped down local copy of gmake chokes on one of the $(warning) directives -- which is fine of itself, I could just remove it, but makes me wonder how well it'll work on the rest of the file, which means I'll have to see if I can't get my crosscompiler to work on it...

Accessories / Configuring Wi-fi? (zonet Zcf1100)

For those following this thread this is (one of) the thread referred to. (Though it hasn't solved my problem since the Sharp rom doesn't have hostap installed...)

Accessories / Configuring Wi-fi? (zonet Zcf1100)
« on: December 22, 2005, 05:55:04 pm »
So I just got a wireless card: zonet zcf1100 which was reported to work-- with WPA no less. It looks like it's not being autodetected however, and the networking config panel is still unhelpfully in japanese. I'm still running the stock Sharp 1.01jp rom (with some localization changes).

So I was wondering where I might find the drivers and what all I'd need to do to install them (recompile the kernel? or is it just a loadable module?). I've done some pretty basic ethernet networking on linux but haven't messed with wireless before so I'd also be interested in general (though detailed) tutorials too. My first step is to get the thing running, but after that I'd like to set WPA up so any pointers on that would be helpful as well.

Accessories / 2gb Sd Card On An Sl-c860

I've got a C1000 with Cacko ROM 1.23b and [...]
A-Data 2Gb  - 29

The A-Data Turbo SD 150X 2G card also fails on SL-C3100 (standard ROM). Only thing I noticed is it caused the keyboard to behave erratically (e.g. backgrounding programs like Qkonsole); removing the card didn't fix the problem, required a reboot. I don't have any other cards to see if it fried the controller as other posters have suggested, though I don't think it should have.

2GB and larger SD cards have a new sort of DRM that the current drivers can't handle. 2GB MMC cards might work, but no has tried them with a Z AFAIK.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=104712\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Ah foolish me, I ordered a 2GB SD before thinking it may be incompatible. (For the curious: it causes the SL-C3100 to behave erratically (e.g. every letter keypress makes Qkonsole background itself) and needs to be rebooted to recover.)

So does anyone have some vague idea what the ETA might be for new drivers? Even just ones that can disable/ignore the DRM? It was a nice fast card for super cheap, it'd be a shame to just return it. (Hmm, any update'd need a new kernel or ROM most likely, so I'd need a smaller card anyways...)
