Sharp ROMs / Bash Script To Disable Suspend
« on: May 04, 2006, 11:17:49 am »
Anyone knows how I could temporarily disable the auto-suspend using a bash script and re-activate it once an app is done ?

I tried using "sed" to modify the qpe.conf, but it seems like the changes were ignored.

Thanks!

You can use headphones and speak in the left speaker to record sound.

Otherwise, I'm pretty sure there's some headsets that could be used, but needs to be tested.

There's also some small mic that you can plug in there.

Very very interesting.. How about the mA's ? I'm not sure how to get this information from a 9V battery. My power tester seems to go up to 200mA only..

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Got Wifi-radar Working

Those dependencies are pre-installed on pdaXrom right? Is it possible to be run under Cacko?

Very interesting deluxe. I also tought of plugging a 9V battery for emergency use.. could a regulator work for this? I saw an existing adaptor for an IPAQ pocket pc which used a 9V battery..

That could really be useful...

There's already an article on mencoder:
https://www.oesf.org/index.php?title=Mencoder_Encoding

Here's my own .bat scripts for outputting the best playback quality/encoding speed for my Zaurus SL-C3000 on WindowsXP:

To encode an existing file using the syntax : enc movie.avi
This will create Zmovie.avi, the compressed movie file.

Code: [Select]
mencoder %1 -ffourcc DX50 -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=500 -vf crop=640:480:0:0 -oac lavc -lavcopts acodec=mp2:abitrate=64 -o Z%1 %2
To encode a movie directly from a DVD source (that you own due to legal stuff) :

Code: [Select]
mencoder dvd://1 -ffourcc DX50 -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=500 -vf crop=640:480:40:0 -oac lavc -lavcopts acodec=mp2:abitrate=64 -o Zdvd.avi %2
Those settings are pretty much the fastest I got to encode movies and the fastest playback on the zaurus using mplayer. You can tweak the bitrate to get better quality or remove the crop and use
Code: [Select]
-vf scale=640:480 to simply scale the full frames (slower encoding)

Note that mplayer playback of a movie with a bitrate beyond 500 was resulting in frame drops. I guess 500 is the best you can get for 640x480.

mencoder and mplayer are really good console encoding and playback tools. Of course they are command-line, but with the right parameters, you can encode divx or mpeg movies resized to 640x480 with 500Kbs bitrate and limited sound for playback on the zaurus.

You can encode directly from your DVD in one simple command. You might even want to add a copy to zaurus call once the encoding is done.

If anyone is interested, I can put up some windows .bat files with "somewhat" optimal settings to rip from a DVD or actual .avi or .mpg file.

I have tried pdaXRom. It was great as it allowed a vast software choice. Therefore, because of the screen size, it is unrealistic to actually "work" on it without getting an headache. Qtopia has bigger fonts, and apps are considering the small screen size. Also, Qtopia desktop is much more "keyboard" friendly for window navigation. I was about to go crazy trying to click on those tiny icons and drop-down menus. Of course, there's a way to enlarge fonts, but it didn't seemed sufficient. At the end I got stability issues and I just gave up and came back to Cacko (Qtopia).

I guess I will move back to pdaXRom when It'll be as easy to use as QTopia.

There's some folks that like tweaking and compiling, and there's some that just want things to work right away

General Discussion / Blanking Screen Instead Of Dimming
« on: March 02, 2006, 07:35:30 pm »
I'm using a SL-C3000, and I was aware of the lid setting, but I would like it to act like a screen saver, where it would blank after a few seconds, and lit again when I press on a key..

Perhaps it's not possible

General Discussion / Blanking Screen Instead Of Dimming
« on: March 02, 2006, 10:28:46 am »
Hello, Is there a way to blank (turn off backlight) instead of dimming to lowest backlight level after a few seconds of IDLE?

I know it can go in suspend mode, but I want to still be able to copy files, telnet and so on while the screen is turned off (save power)

There's a few settings in Settings/qpe.conf that might do the trick, but I don't know..

Thanks!

A little tip if you're thinking of buying a second-hand Zaurus in Akihabara, make sure everything works perfectly before changing the OS to english. I had a problem with mine (which I managed to fix myself) and when I went back to the shop with my Zaurus in english, the clerk said I had just voided their warranty by modifying the settings. Truly, he doesn't understand what locale setting is about.

But anyway, make sure to keep it in a "default" state, or revert it back BEFORE going to the shop.

I bought mine in a very tiny Softmap shop in Akihabara

Sharp ROMs / Luss Screen Saver And Auto Power Off
« on: February 12, 2006, 10:17:44 am »
In relation to this post, is there any setting or software that would shut off the backlight after n seconds, instead of dimming to the lowest backlight level? Basically I would like the auto-dim to completely shut off the backlight, but not go in suspend mode right away.

Anyone ?
Thanks
