Luss Screen Saver And Auto Power Off
« on: February 11, 2006, 10:36:34 pm »
I have noticed that with the luss screen saver installed, even if it is disabled, my zaurus will still power its self off automaticaly if it is connected to a network or usb storage.  It is a reall problem especially if I am copying files to it when it does it.  Now I am using cacko rom and it comes with this screensaver and of course the same problem.

Anyone know a fix for it?

In relation to this post, is there any setting or software that would shut off the backlight after n seconds, instead of dimming to the lowest backlight level? Basically I would like the auto-dim to completely shut off the backlight, but not go in suspend mode right away.

Anyone ?
Thanks

mbaush,

light and power settings should have a setting to not dim the light and to turn the backlighting off in a specified amount of time.

xaminder,

I do believe the the luss screen saver does not suspend by default.  Are you sure these are not the suspend settings from light and power?  If you never want the Z to suspend you have to edit the qpe.sh file.
I'm now an iphone user and use my zaurii as serial terminals, perl and shell scripting and when I need 640x480 screens

There are certain circomstances where the zaurus should not auto susspend or at least it doesn't on the default japanese rom:
 * 1) connected as usb drive
 * 2) connected to network via wireless card
   3) playing music/movies
   4) conected to external power (yes it does eventually)

the two that I put an asterisk next to are the ones that are not working correctly.  And as far as I can tell, and through my experimenting, it is the luss screensaver that is messing these two up.  when i uninstalled it from my sharp rom all my power settings went back to normal.  But now i am on cacko and it is built in so i cant just uninstall it.

Does anyone know how I can fix this sence the luss screensaver can not be uninstalled from cacko?

It is driving me nuts to have to remimber to tap the zaurus every few minutes to keep it from suspending while i copy files to it.

thanks for the clarification.  I know this isn't elegant, but couldn't you just kill the daemon?  I'm wondering what config file or startup script you would have to edit.

edit - I couldn't find a luss type daemon running on my cacko 3100.

You can edit /home/zaurus/Settings/LUSScreenSaver.conf and add stuff to DisableSuspend
basically, if the specified processes are detected, then it won't suspend
SL-C3000 - pdaXii13 build5.4.9 (based on pdaXrom beta3) / SL-C3100 - Sharp ROM 1.02 JP (heavily customised)

Ok, it doesn't suspend any more when the network is connected and the lid is open.  I added "dhcpcd" to the LUSScreenSaver.conf and it seems to be working.  But as soon as I close the lid it will still turn off.

I can't figure out what to do to get it to stay awake while connected to usb though.  Any ideas?

Also, how can I get it to stay awake when the lid is closed and it is connected to the network.  Basicly I want it to act just like it does with the music player.

I hope I'm not the only one having this problem.  Can someone confirm this?
