C1000/3x00 Hardware / C1000 Screen Protection
« on: March 21, 2006, 04:21:23 am »
I made a (crappy) picture from my screen with the protector on it. I think you'll get the idea what I mean if you look at it. Any of you have a better protector than the one in the picture?

Funny that you mention that. I was just wondering myself if there is a front layer. On the description how to install the protector there is nothing about a front layer, only that you need to remove the back layer. Also, there was only a little sticker on the back layer which instructed me to remove it. Do you have the same protector as I have?

C1000/3x00 Hardware / C1000 Screen Protection

I just received a screen protector from Ebay. It's from PDair. Where I struggeled to get a protector on my Nintendo DS without dust or bubbles beneath it, I actually managed to place this one succesfully. However, it makes my C3100's screen a little bit fuzzy. Especially on white background, I see very small coloured noise or something. Miniscule green and red dots. A bit hard to explain I guess. Is this normal for screen protectors? Are there any better ones? And do other people here have experience with the PDair protector?

I got a segmentation fault when I tried to install it from the command line. It doesn't get as far as running the post-install script, which adds their extension to the mime file types.

It does seem to run fine, though. I'm tempted to try and repack their IPK and see what happens.

I have the same experience right now. Have you found a solution or could you tell me how to manually uninstall TextMaker?

edit: I deleted the following files:

\opt\QtPalmtop\apps\Application\tm.desktop
\opt\QtPalmtop\bin\tm
\opt\QtPalmtop\etc\TextMaker\fonts\ various (17) *.pfb files
\opt\QtPalmtop\etc\TextMaker\html\ various *.gif and *.htm files
\opt\QtPalmtop\etc\TextMaker\html_en\ bksm.gif, desksml.jpg, index.htm
\opt\QtPalmtop\etc\TextMaker\install_en\Config\ tml.txm, tmw.dbf
\opt\QtPalmtop\etc\Textmaker\install_en\Documents\ FAQ.tmd, Readme.tmd, World_Languages.tmd
\opt\QtPalmtop\etc\TextMaker\install_en\Templates\ ... various directories and files
\opt\QtPalmtop\pics\tm.png

I rebooted my Zaurus, and everything is still working. Also, TextMaker is gone. Are there any things I missed? Should I delete something else? Or edit some config file or something?

I found your post in this topic, but I can't find a working ipk file for libvobisidec  Every version I did found results in an error during installation (see my posts above).

I also found out that libmad is the package that enables the voices in scummvm. I have the latest lidmad and libsdl packages from http://zports.sourceforge.net/, but still no luck

edit: I found out that my version of Atlantis uses an ogg sound file, which is not supported in scumm, right?

Another problem though... I tried to run Indiana Jones: Fate of Atlantis. Everything works, but I don't hear any voices. Do I have to install an extra library or something?

Thank you for the information. I installed scummvm_0.5.1-2_arm.ipk. I also created a file .scummvmrc in /home/root containing the following lines:

Code: [Select]
[scummvm]
gfx_mode=normal
fullscreen=true
savepath=/mnt/card/Games/scumm

[mi3]
amiga=false
description=Monkey Island 1
fullscreen=true
path=/mnt/card/Games/MI3

I then try to start the game in Qkonsole using:

Code: [Select]
#su
#scummvm mi3

However, I get the error:

QPaintDevice: Must construct a QApplication before a QPaintDevice

edit: I also tried installing a newer scummvm version, but therefor you need the libvobisidec package. It's hard to find on the internet, and the version that I found didn't want to install.

However, after some searching I found the answer!  http://zports.sourceforge.net/ This scummvm version works excellent on my C3100, even with a nice GUI. I am a happy guy once more!

In the 90's I played a lot of point & click adventures, like the Monkey Island series, Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacles, Grim Fandango, Myst, etc... are there any ports of these games available for the C3100? Or totally new games?

It would rock to play it with the stylus on the smooth Zaurus screen.

I've installed your package, and it rocks! But it doesn't run full speed. I tried Killer Instinct for example, but it runs a bit shocky, especially when the action's hot. Is this normal, or can it run faster?

I installed the zlib package you suggested. Now, I get the following error:

could not open translation file /home/QtPalmtop//i18n/ja/libsl.qmid

The game starts anyways though. I get the intro movies, and can get into the menu. But as soon as I want to actually start a game my Zaurus hangs during the loading of all the graphics. I get a screen saying:

The available work area is becoming very low. Please select an application to terminate and tap OK button.

Any idea what to do next?

edit: When I open the System Info application (nothing else open) and look at memory it says I've used 30.064 KB of 63.100 KB total memory. I have 32.036 KB left. How come it's using almost half of the available memory with no applications open except this one? I guess that is causing the error that my work area is becoming low?

I tried installing this. I already have the SDL library from Cresho's NES/SNES package (libsdl_1.2.5-slzaurus20050731_arm.ipk). I downloaded the zip on bam's website (http://thegrinder.ws/index.php), extracted it, and now have an ipk file and a dir: stratagus_2.0.0-1_arm.ipk and data.bos.

I currently have no SD or CF card available, so I've put it on the micro drive (I think, I'm not quite sure if I understand what data is on the flash, and what on the drive  ). It's located at /hdd3/Games/data.bos. I also installed the ipk file with the package installer.

Now when I open Qkonsole and type "stratagus -d /hdd3/Games/data.bos -v 1", I get the following error:

stratagus: error while loading shared libraries: libz.so.1: cannot load shared object file: No such file or directory

Do I have to install another library or something? If so, which one?  I am using the standard sharp rom.

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Movieplayer.qmid Does Not Exist?
« on: March 09, 2006, 02:35:56 pm »
I just received my new C3100  I have found meanies elaborate website, and I want to add english descriptions to the menus. I installed Qkonsole, and am inputting his command at this moment. But at the line "cp /home/zaurus/Documents/custom/movieplayer.qmid ." it already goes wrong   The terminal says this file doesn't exist. When I look into /home/zaurus/Documents, it does not contain a folder custom.

I am a totally new to Linux, so I have no idea how to fix this problem. Do I have to manually install something first? I do have a movieplayer installed (the one which was installed by default).

edit: Never mind. Once again, I was to fast and excited   I missed the part on meanies site which says you have to copy some files to the Zaurus... D'oh!

Yippie!! I recieved my 3100

First thing I would like: to localisize it to English, but also keep te Japanese texts, as mentioned in meanies guide. I'm not sure if I first have to backup my Zaurus though, and if so: how? I read you have to do a NAND backup, but I'm afraid I'm not sure how to do that...

Within two days? Wow, that's fast! Two days after they received the C1000 from wherever they buy them? Or after you transfered the money to their bank account? And may I ask where you live? I still haven't heard anything from PriceJapan, but I guess it takes a while for my bank transfer to Frankfurt to be handled... I hope....

I ordered a C3100 at PriceJapan.com.  I transfered money to the Frankfurt bank account they have. Anyone any idea how long it will approximately take for my precious to arrive in the Netherlands, after the money is transfered from my account (on the 22th, Wednesday)?

The wire transfer method is not implemented correctly on PriceJapan's website btw, so I had to place my order by e-mail. I hope I didn't just flush my money down the toilet and never see a Zaurus for it. *crosses fingers*
