Sharp ROMs / Bluetooth Dial-up With A Sprint Treo 650

I was able to get an internet connection from my Sprint Treo 650 to my old Clie UX-50, but I cannot do the same with the Zaurus.  I'm hoping someone here can help.

I am using a Zaurus SL C-760 with Socket Bluetooth Rev F card and running Cacko 1.23.  Initially, I had my Treo set so that DUN was turned off.  That's the only way I could get the Zaurus to recognize the Treo.  In the Network Applet, I successfully located the Treo, set up the user/pass as qnc/qnc, and set it to dial #777.  On the Treo I turned DUN on, but nothing happens when I try to initiate a dialup connection.  With the DUN turned off on the Treo, the bluetooth symbol on the Treo lights up, but still nothing.

I'm not sure what else to try.  Any ideas?

I do bluetooth dialup with my Palm T5 and my laptop to my Treo 650 with Sprint. And it works great, Note that the treo 650 does NOTHING with the laptop or T5 connect, as the treo is still usable as a PDA during the connection, (only phone and The Treos access to data are blocked at this time)

Also It took alot of trial and error even before I got my Palm T5 to connect to the Treo 650 for dial-up. I do remember that i had to download a updated profile for the T5 to connect to the Treo 650 as well.

Good luck getting it to work as Blue-tooth is a major pain.

Actually, now that I've done my own work to prove to myself that swapping out the internal microdrive is so eminently available to anyone with a small phillips screwdriver, I'm sitting here and thinking about what I would order up, if I were ole "Mr. Sharp" himself, so as to improve the Zaurus.  You folks want to sit back for a minute and think about just how far the Zaurus is, in front of the rest of the pack.  This is largely due to their outstanding screen and keyboard, but not only that.  If I couldbn't expand that 4Gb drive to something newer, then maybe I coiuld see a beef, but the biggest thing I see right now, is Sharp missing out on the boat, in what has to rack up there nearly with IBM's leaving the PC behind, or Commodore's walking away from the Pet (remember that?).  As far as a marketing blunder, it's pretty enormous, and all efforts to explain it as some part of a deep, dark strategic plot really need to take another look.  Sharp wouldn't be the first company to just get so wrapped up in tunnel vision that they can't see the golden goose right when it's in the act of laying a big one.

   Think about it; Sharp's position, both compeitively (because of the unique attributes of their screen, they own it, right?) and because of the leg up they have because of all these user groups, is so enviable, it's like a Marketing Guru's wet dream.  When will Sharp wake up?  Just after someone else steals their market ,I'm beginning to think.

This is sounding really really good. I just hope they do it right. Of course... they could completly blow it  

But I would LOVE to be able to write scripts in pearl and have Palm OS style gui front end.

I think it would be great to have a linux powered Palm, Also if this goes well and this ends up being a modification friendly platform, this could really help the Zaurus and provide some competition.

OK, Kinda stupid question...

I am thinking of buying on of these Meritline MWL-672 as its dirt cheap. ($25)

I would love to have a card that I use on both my Knoppix laptop and the sl-5500.

OK, UPdate from John, flourstones does not use floating point math, only integer math...

I am sooooo confused!!!, but he did tell me how to modify the code for it to fit in smaller amounts of Ram (the default is 64 MB table, he told me what to change to get it to only use 41 mb of ram which should fit fine w/o swap space), I may edit the code and upload it, if you want to compile it again, I am curious to see if it speeds up any if the swap file was slowing it down.

The word "slight" above can be a bit of an understatement.
Apparently, trying to do 64 bit operations 32-bit at a time

maybe Fhourstones is pretty unique in using 64 bit modulo operations...





And i had no idea what a modulo operation was until I decided to look it up:

Its also very interesting as to how slow this app is on my 1.25 GHz Mini Mac.

Run on AMD64 3200+ 512 MB Ram SUSE 10 64 bit System (has 32 bit compatability)
Compiled using GCC 4.0.2
32 Bit Executable: 2778.6 Kpos/sec
64 Bit Executable: 5221.4 Kpos/sec
also running the 32bit on a 32 bit SUSE OS vs 32 bit on a 64 bit SUSE OS was no diffrent.

Run on Zaurus 5500 64 MB ram, 70 MB swap on CF card.
lardman's compile: 93 Kpos/sec

I was initially worried about that, but with a large swap enabled, it basically pshed out most of the memory the other apps were using, as the benchmark allocates 66+/- MB of ram, but seems to access about 37 MB at a time, I am using the Crow rom with 64 MB available, so I think its pretty accurate.

I have used some of the other benchmarks, but thanks for the link. I am interested in this benchmark in particular because of the 64 bit division that is implemented.

Ok, It does run ok, Needed to enable a very large swap file for it to work as it uses about 66 MB of ram, I didnt have my power cable, so i had to kill the run before it finished due to weak battery, I will post the benchmark number tonight.

Hello,

I am now doing to project in part comparing Architectures and such. I have been using lots of benchmarks with different compiler options running i386, i686, AMD64 all using linux SUSE 10, when possible I have been replicating the test in Windows, (oh, and Linux is about 3-7% faster depending on Actual Bench run.)

It would be great if someone could compile this app for ARM so I could give it a go on my 5500. (it should come up with a horrible number with this Bench mark on ARM as this bench uses 64 bit Division.) As most of the benchmarks i have tried are really slow on the 5500, math is seriously slow on ARM.

I have a Zaurus 5500 Running Crow rom with 64 meg ram option.

This is one of the only applications that I have tried that actually almost doubles performance when compiled as a 64 bit vs 32 Bit. The writer of the application said that the extra registers in the AMD64 chip can be used for the 64Bit division when compiled as 64 bit.

If someone could compile this and forword me the binary, I would be great. Thanks.

I had the same problem, here was my solution (kind of a work around):

I download one of the many web pages that has a listing of all the bash linux command line apps. like this one: http://www.ss64.com/bash/ ( I think this is what i used) Use wget or something to download the index and all the links for the specific commands.

Then I put it all in one openoffice.org text document (arrange to your liking), and save to a PDF file.

Then use one of the PDF viewers and the search function. works great. and probably takes up less space than the actual man pages take up.

as to the rest of the missing commands on the Z, I installed busybox?? package I think, and it added all I needed.

I also did the same with the Perl documentation.
