Hi,

I was trying to to a tar of my home directory and one of the conf files complains about a Input/output error.  What does this mean, and how can I fix it?  I could not delete the file it just complains the same error.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / OZ 3.5.1pre1 + GPE testing

does wireless networking work on this image?  I inserted my socket wlan card, but the led doesnt even light up.  Also on settings, I see both wlan config and network setup, but looks like there are similar settings on both, so I dont know where to start.  I know my wlan works on my opie-image setup.   I have a 5500 with openzaurus 3.5.1 and a 5000 with gpe, so I can try both roms at the same time :-)

General Discussion / Linux for desktop?

I am also a slackware user.  I went through a stage of trying out several linux distros, and somehow found that slackware was for me.  Slackware does not hide anything behind gui\'s, so after the initial learning curve, at least you know whats going on in your system.  I feel it is a lean and mean distribution.  Other distros install way too much stuff than I need.  I know you can select only packages you need, but with slackware, I dont have to select, I just install everything, and I dont feel it is bloated.  This and the fact that it doesnt run a lot of services by default,   and the packages included are taken pretty much straight from the original source unmodified is what makes it more stable and faster than other distros.
from your original post, I know you dont want to hear about slackware, but I thought other people reading this thread might :-)

« on: March 05, 2004, 01:24:55 am »
I reflashed back to the february rom, and my display is back to normal.  At least it doesnt look like a hardware problem :-)

I repartitioned my flash to exactly 26 for the new rom,  but I dont know if that has anything to do with it.  In any case, flashed enough times for tonight, if anyone has any ideas, i can try the new rom again later.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Quality Team For OZ
« on: March 03, 2004, 12:53:53 pm »
Maybe we just need to organize the effort more.  We can start with a team of volunteers, each one starts with a task, just like creating documentation.  I can already see a couple of people on this thread starting this.  Then, someone to divide the tasks into categories, then on each category a very specific task to do.  People can then sign up to do each task.  Also, the skills needed for each task.  Then, setup a webpage with the status of the effort on a regular basis.  I think if people see the actual progress on a task by task basis regularly, then they might be more interested to join in development.
I know in my case, I feel there are many things to do, and I dont know where to start.  I also  thought there were already people on certain things, so i was thinking that I am not needed anymore, so I was surprised to find out that only two people right now.

Anyway, just my thoughts...maybe now we can have lardman doing request for help in addition to mickeyl :-)

Software / hancom word doesnt work anymore
« on: November 11, 2003, 07:14:10 pm »
Hi,

I tried to open a word file in hancom word.  First it said something about the file being too big, so I have to wait.  I saw the busy icon, then nothing.  Now, everytime I try to start hancom word, I just see the busy icon, then nothing.  Any ideas?  I dont even know how to reinstall it, since I dont have ipk for it. I am using sash rom 1.17 on my c760.

Thanks,
Frank
