OpenBSD / Browsers

Good point.

Maybe could Qtopia would be runnable with Linux emulation, but I wouldn't bet on it...

It is also quite easy to setup the same kind of environment on a win32 machine, using cygwin.

Linux Emulation:
I don't think we need Linux emulation. If you want Linux then use a Linux. If you want BSD then use BSD. If you want Linux and BSD then dual boot.

I did not used the "need" word. But I still believe that it would be useful. And I have the feeling that I am not the only one, because the three BSD branchs on x86 support this feature, as the way to answer to proprietary linux software.

Beside, dual booting is not the same thing than running two apps in the same user space. Rebooting twice a day is the "windows" way of doing thing, but it is neither the way of using a PDA, nor the way to use a BSD machine.

What is really lacking, IMHO, is the Linux emulation, that would solve the browser problem (allowing Opera to be used), and would also allow a few neat thing to be used, like a java machine.

OpenBSD / [crosspost] Stackless Python For Openbsd/zaurus
« on: August 15, 2006, 12:53:40 pm »
Hello,

I managed to port and run Stackless to OpenBSD for Zaurus.

WARNING: Stackless installed itselfs as a standard Python distribution, and will crush yours if no installation prefix is provided. I install mine in /usr/local/stackless to avoid this problems.

First, download and uncompress the version 2.4.3 on http://www.stackless.com

Here is a link to the files to use for patching : http://basy.free.fr/stackless_arm_zaurus.tgz

The recursive diff arm32.patch should work on any platform, with a little tweaking. The files specific to OpenBSD/Zaurus are the patch_* files.

To build for arm32 :
 - apply the arm32 patch;
 - ./configure=installationprefix;
 - add a -D__arm32__ to the OPT and the CPPFLAGS
 - make, make install

To build for OpenBSD/Zaurus
 - apply the arm32 patch;
 - ./configure --prefix=installationprefix
 - apply the patch_* on the proper files
 - make, make install

Sorry to produce post configure patches I'm not very fond/skilled in ./configure scripts.

OpenBSD / Gcc -mthumb Option
« on: August 09, 2006, 10:09:32 am »
Hello.

I try to make Stackless Python work on OpenBSD Zaururs, starting from a port made for Nintendo DS.

This port uses a thumb assembly module (used for implementing C stack  black magic).

I therefore tried to compile the whole bunch of file using the -mthumb -mthumb-interwork options of GCC, but the compilation fails, the gcc assembler complaining about "bad instructions".

Did anyone already managed to build/make work some thumb compiled software on OpenBSD ?

Thanks in advance.

PS: maybe something I said here is complete nonsense, but I'm not familiar with this kind of low level sorcery...

The problem is that to build it, some bit of ASM is needed.

And I didn't write that kind of stuff since the end of the Z80...

Is there an existing port of Stackless Python on Zaurus ?

Hello,

Which tools do you use, to connect to open Wi-Fi Access Points ? Do you use handmade scripts, particular tools ?

OpenBSD / Anyone Got Bluetooth Working?

The kernel can be compiled easily with ubt support (and recognize my low cost dongle). I managed to find a compilable gpsdrive version, and the gpsd port also compile easily.

But... I couldn't manage to find a way of getting things to work together : gpsd/gpsdrive want a ttyS device, and ubt does not seem to provide one by default. I did a bit of searching on mailing lists, but I fear I am not a specialist in low level drivers, and I am completely stucked...

Could you detail what you mean by "calibration run" ? Is it a simple cycling of the battery ?

Looks like it's been fixed...

Yep, it seems fixed in the 3.9 stable. But it looks like there is a new bug introduced in snapshot.

However, hugs to the guy that fixed it

OpenBSD / Suspend Crashes

Does anyone have some news about this crash ? or knows a way to avoid it (other than never suspending) ?

The two latests snapshots works worst on this issue and seems not to be able to resume after a suspend (the bug is systematic).

(my zaurus is a C3100)

1- Have you a USB OTG adapter cable?

2- If yes on (1), Have you tested with a powered USB HUB?
