Software / Mozilla Thunderbird, Firebird, And Sunbird For Z?
« on: July 04, 2006, 12:18:02 am »
Found the problem with the Sunbird...
Need to launch it from a command line with "sunbird -calendar" for some reason.

you mean this old package? http://www.pdaxrom.org/unstable/sunbird_0.2a_armv5tel.ipk

I guess so.  I was hoping it was a different one as that package won't run for me (I started a thread about it, but have not seen any replies yet).

Hi,

I've managed to build Mozilla Sunbird from CVS, and it seems to work ok for me.

I keep my personal calendar and todos in a webdav ics file, so it's nice to be able to access it from my Zaurus

How do I go about uploading it to the unstable feed? I've not contributed anything before...

Did you ever get this uploaded?

Where can I find it?

I have been trying for a LONG time to get Sunbird or such working...

There is a SunBird in the feed but I have yet to get it working.

Left a post in march but have yet to get a response or figure it out myself...

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pdaxrom For C3000 Beta2

So is this Beta2 the most recent version for the C3000?

(Without some of the funky boot onto hdd4 and such methods I have seen, which seem like one heck of a hack to be running your main OS with...)

I am wondering why it is necessary to Flash the ROM everytime I want to re-install the HDImage ?

I quite regularly mangle the filesystem while playing and am wondering if I am just adding unecessary wear to the ROM having to do this all the time...

Is there a way around this?

P.S>  Thanks to meanie's pages once again I now have 1 local feed that is a combination of the stuff from his site as well as the C3000 and Additional feeds from pdaXrom.  Just working on semi-automating his changes now ...

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Oz / Gpe
« on: March 26, 2006, 09:24:45 pm »
My views are pretty straight forward.

I have been playing with some different ROMS on my 550 for quite a while and am now playing with a 3000.

In general I found that OZ/Opie is a wonderful PDA wiht quite a few nice extras due to being a Linux OS rather than a uniprocess like the Palm Pilot was.

I have felt that OZ/QPE is nice but just feels "not quite there" as either a laptop or a PDA.

I have found that working with pdaXrom BETA1 on the 3000 feels a lot more like a lightweight laptop rather than a PDA.

These are my reasons for wanting to figure out a nice/easy dual-boot between OZ/Opie and pdaXrom.

In regards to the 2.4 vs 2.6 kernel I have not seen numbers either, but from a users perspective it "feels" faster on my desktop PC, my 500 and my 3000.

My biggest wish would be thet the pdaXrom could do more of the PDA stuff better (suspend/resume, synchronize with Desktop (windows, linux, mac) and such) without losing it's great desktop feel.

Yes, I think I sound just as tormented/confused as all the others who have tried both...

P.S>  I also tried OpenBSD and it is definitely a real OS and not a "lite" version, but it is not user-friendly, but OpenBSD never has been.

Any know if this works on pdaXrom?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=116830\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

yes, as normal USB storage
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=116840\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Has someone actually tried?

My concern is that it is USB powered and I understand the usb on the Zaurus doesn't put out much current.

it's still 1.1.0b1 at the moment ... currently working on porting 1.1.0b2  (next beta ... will probably be named "1.1.0b2 for c3000 beta 1" then lol (sorry for such confusing names btw ... )
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=118815\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

or call it 1.1.0b2-c3kb1

From reading your site (thanks for all the info BTW) I am not surprised you would say that...

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Sunbird On 1.1.0bx On C3000
« on: March 16, 2006, 07:48:06 pm »
Well, did some playing and have the following info...

If I run "sunbird-bin -calendar" then it starts up and works OK, but only after being in the same dir and issuing "ldconfig ./"

I also get errors trying to install the mozilla package from the unstable feed.  Could this be related somehow?

Is this 1.1.0b2 or 1.1.0b1+ ?  The first post slightly confuses me.  (Or maybe I shouldn't be trying to read such things at 11pm...)

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Video Encoder Settings
« on: March 16, 2006, 01:53:05 am »
One option I don't see people mentioning is the "-framedrop" for mplayer.

I find I add this to any video playback for my C3000 OR 5500 with mplayer and I tend to get quite decent results and no drastically noticeable disruption of viewability.

This seems to help the audio which seems to be the dog in most of the different formats I have tried.

I have to admit I use Windows (shhhh) to do the encoding, but I run DivX (or xVid) with a rate of 256 or 512 for the encoding with MP3 audio at approx 192 kbps and the playback seems quite good.

I have a C3000 and am running the beta from
https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=17070
and am wondring if anyone else has had any success running sunbird?

I am trying the ipk from the unstable feed but it just errors out.

(After installing the libstdcxx5-compat_5.0.7_arm5tel.ipk from the FIXES link)

I get the following...

/usr/lib/sunbird-0.2a/run-mozilla.sh: line 131:  1171 Segmentation fault     "$prog" ${1+"$@"}

Also tried running this with the su operator -c sunbird  option which made gps-drive run proerly in case it was some weird root as user issue and I get the same results.

This is pretty much the one app that keeps the zaurus from being my laptop killer...

I'd rather have extra people working on stuff (especially something as well done as a game that is open source and actually fun for kids) rather than no-one doing it!

Thanks anyway!
