Pdaxrom For C3000 Beta2
« Reply #120 on: March 12, 2006, 06:35:18 pm »
Sound isn't working? I've not tried the latest OZ kernel myself but I did ask about C3000 support and I got this response off JohnX a couple of months ago

https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=16551&st=30

Even back then he said that sound, suspend, touchscreen and keyboard were all working. If thats true I'd imagine the Cxx00 are pretty much fully supported by 2.6 now.

X.org would be great, but would that not break compatibility with all the packages in the current pdaxrom feed that use the X libs? I don't think there are any packages outside of kdebase that use the kde libs so I'd love it if you could update KDE to 3.5.1 and port kword and k3b? Being able to easily burn discs on my Zaurus would blow my mates away but kword is my most wanted app for the Z.

More important than x.org and a new KDE (if not as cool as pdaxrom with a 2.6 kernel) is getting support for a FAT partition in the installer. I don't mind if we have to partition the disc manually at first, just as long as I can install pdaxrom with a root, swap, home and a FAT partion so the USB link still works.

Keep us updated please Thc- Thanks!

There is now a kexec for 2.4.x kernel. might as well use this one rather than going to 2.6 for booting.

@Danboid : well , it seems that 2.6 kernel doesn't support bvdd yet which would be a showstopper for us (btw, the pdaXrom buildsystem is nearby ready to include 2.6 kernel once it will support everything ) (if I could live without video acceleration I would already have switched to OpenBSD )

@Meanie :

Caution:
Not very security. I have ever corrupted my jffs2 root file system on nand flash with this. Turn off the MTD support on booted kernel.
this one is a little scaring, seems a little too risky to include it by default in a rom (even beta) (and, it would force me to build various kernels for various roms to be able to test dual boot in any way ... remember I'm a lazy guy sometimes )

bvdd is a 'must-have' feature for me- but are you totally sure its not in 2.6 now? I know JohnX said it wasn't in on that link I posted but that was over 2 months ago which is a long time in Linux land. Good to hear pdaxrom is pretty much 2.6 ready though!

well, that's ok. I don't intend to ever dual boot my Z anyway. Ever since products like VMWare have appeared, I have come to the believe that dual booting is something that was done during the dark ages in the last millenium
lazyness is also one of my virtues
maybe we should be starting to look at ways how we can upgrade pdaXrom on our Zs without wiping everything and starting from scratch. For betas it is more or less acceptable/required to rebuild the whole system, but really, once we get into a stable non beta release, we should have a way of upgrading without wiping all our data or settings.

What is BVDD anyway, no one can offer me a technical explanation of what it does and as far as i can see it just allows programs to use and reserve the built in SRAM for faster decoding, if so then a bit of clever hackery and 2.6 should support it

/home on another partion has always worked for me an my home PC, i swear by it, and depending on your managment of self compiled packages, /usr/local as a symlink to home or the better option of another partion

Is this 1.1.0b2 or 1.1.0b1+ ?  The first post slightly confuses me.  (Or maybe I shouldn't be trying to read such things at 11pm...)

just a quick fix for those doing reboots offten (if you havent done it already)

boot and open /media/realroot/sbin/init in a text editor and change the following lines

Code: [Select]
mount -t ext3 /dev/hda1to
Code: [Select]

mount -t ext3 /dev/hdc1 || mount -t ext3 /dev/hda1

this means you can now have a CF card in the slot and it still boots corectly

and if like me you have HD problems you might want to add
Code: [Select]
echo fscking hdd
fsck.ext3 /dev/hdc1 -p || fsck.ext3 /dev/hda1 -p

and copy fscx.ext3 and e2fsck from /sbin to /media/realroot/sbin
now copy libcom_err* libuuid* librt* libblkid* libcrypt* from /lib to /media/realroot/lib

thats it, reboot and enjoy, i appoligise if someone solved this already, next i want to get reboots working proprly
