General Discussion / Help! My Zaurus Has Died!
« on: November 15, 2006, 06:49:23 pm »
It worked! You're a genius!

It simply came back on, even though I had already tried the battery/ac combo. This is what's great about owning a Zaurus, the userbase of people like you that seem to know as much as the company's engineers. Thanks!

What do you think it was that was causing the problem?

Regards,

Have you tried to enter the diagnostics menu or flash menu?

Try the following:

- Remove battery and AC
- Hold Fn+D+M keys firmly and during that
- reinsert the battery and switch the battery switch to the locked position
- Release the three keys

What happens?

General Discussion / Help! My Zaurus Has Died!
« on: November 15, 2006, 05:38:36 pm »
Greetings!

My SL-C1000 has just completely done dead on me. I was wondering if this had happened to anyone else. It was working perfect on a recent trip, and I came back home and then put it on the shelf. I now try to start it, and there is no response at all...just a dead black screen.

I've of course tried to remove the battery, recharge it, etc. There is the tiniest little rattling sound, which would imply that it had suffered an impact or something. The problem is, I don't remember ever dropping it! There are also no exterior signs of damage...its in great condition.

Has anyone had this issue before? Do you think if I sent it back to Japan they might fix it?

Thanks!

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Voice Record On C1000?

Can someone post a link for the qpe-voicerec IPK ? I have purchased a second-hand Z without the CD, thinking I could find everything on the web.

I have a SL-3000.

Thanks!

I'm a little out of it here...what hardware connection would you use for a mic? Would it plug into the headphone jack or into the mini-usb? Anyone have a spec for a microphone that is confirmed to work with the c1000?

I've got Cacko 1.23 installed and it seems there is a voice-record app installed...anyone have any experience with it?

Thanks...

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Java Apps...on Cacko 1.23?

zs710 is a zip file from looking at its extension.

unzip zs710.zip .

I'm unsure if it's just one file or a whole directory structure

I haven't loaded a java game on the Z for a while, but I do have personal profile for the zaurus loaded.  I think that is a JVM that might help.

Yeah, za710.zip is a whole directory structure. What would it take to install an application like this on the Zaurus? Another one which is similar is Cinderella. As I recall that too was a directory structure without an IPK in there. Using the Zaurus install program it won't recognize these applications.

I'm new to this stuff...and installing the IPK packages came pretty naturally. But how to do it when you don't see an IPK?

Thanks...

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Java Apps...on Cacko 1.23?
« on: April 26, 2006, 11:10:23 am »
Greetings!

I'm trying to get a few Java-based applications to work on my Zaurus SL-c1000. I had assumed that with Cacko 1.23 installed, Java applications would run fine on the Zaurus.

I've just come to notice that Zaurus applications that DONT work have a tendency to be Java-based. I've checked the install notes and don't see anything about adding additional Java libraries, etc.  When launched they just pause, then do nothing. Here's a short list:

Jcards
Cocktails
Java Based Journal
Image/J
Shh Tetris
Zen Garden 1.0
etc...etc....

Also I'm not quite sure how to install other types of applications that do not come as *.IPK files. Like for example zs710, or Cinderella...what kind of process do you need to get applications like that installed? Sorry for the stupid questions!

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Can't Sync SL-3000 With Laptop!

Not tried that.

To be honest, it is too fiddly for me. Need to sync. on a regular basis, and doing that every time would drive me nuts...

Still, nice to have a choice...

Zuber,

Did you resolve the syncin issue with the english version of the drivers? It is certainly not intuitive dealing with a Jap frontend.

Thanks,
Ashu

Greetings,

I'm new to the Zaurus world and I have a new SL-c1000, I wanted to add my two cents. This setup should be identical to your 3000 in terms of synching. I have been able to successfully synch with my PC using Outlook 2000 (XP Home sp2). Note that Outlook 2003 will NOT work. As far as drivers go, I used the 5600 software synch package (not 6000), and also the newer Japanese drivers from the CD. I synch almost every day now, works perfect...just like a Palm or Pocket PC.

tap and hold on an icon it will allow you to uncheck "magnified" mode.  This will stop forcing it to the 320x240 portrait view.

Tapping and holding works fine! Awesome, thank you!

Greetings!

I'm a former Pocket PC and Palm user and I just purchased my first Sharp SL-C1000. I love the unit and have no regrets. I installed Cacko 1.23, which is top notch. I also successfully synched with Outlook 2000 on the PC (note it doesn't work at all with 2003).

However there is one problem: I can't find any good 3rd party applications for the Zaurus! After reading extensive reviews on the unit I expected most of the applications found in the Zaurus Software Indexes to be compatible. But 90% of them aren't really compatible, at least in 640x480 Landscape mode. Many of them will crash my C1000, and virtually all of them run in this very bizzarre low res portrait mode, which is awkward to say the least. Working in high-res landscape mode is really the reason I bought the unit.

Is there something I'm doing wrong? Or perhaps has someone compiled a list of good applications that work in VGA Landscape mode? Notable exceptions are:

SAFEDEE...works perfect in Landscape Mode
CLOVERPAINT...does not work in Landscape mode but its a nice program and good implementation.

I'm looking for a good PDF reader...and not too much else maybe an outliner or financial program.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Paul Schuyler
