Accessories / Is 5.15v Dc (idle) Safe?

Hi all,
bought an AC adapter. Asked the (clueless) vendor whether 5V meant 5.00V+-0 or something else. Vendor said, sure it's exactly 5 volts.

Now I got it and my voltmeter says 5.15V. Rumor has it that anything <5.3V is safe but the adapter wasn't too expensive and I'm afraid that loaded it could have voltage peaks. Any hints.

It's rated 2.5A @ 5V ("stabilized"). The product is called "Electronic 2.5".

If you're measuring the voltage across a switching power supply with no load, the only voltage you'll never see is the one it's rated for. Usually it's high; I'm surprised that you saw 5.15 volts on the line, rather than 5.5 or 6. In any case, you should be just fine; my Zaurus (collie) is perfectly happy on 5-6 V.

I've used both, and they're functionally identical. No noticeable differences in range or power consumption. Judging from HostAP, they've got the identical chips inside. The Ambicom comes with slightly newer firmware, but either one can be flashed up to the latest if you care about that sort of thing. So yeah, the only real differences are that the Ambicom is a bit slimmer and nicer to look at, and that the WCF12 is easier to find for a good price.
