Zaurus - pdaXrom / Descent D1x-rebirth
« on: March 23, 2007, 06:41:45 am »
How does the patch for the 1.0 to 1.4 version work? It does not change the descent.hog or the descent.pig files.

At this moment the application can't find the descent.sng file on start of the application. This should be locatied in the hog file isn't it?

It took me about two hours to find the Descent 2 CD-ROM (which does not include descent 1 by the way).
For Descent 1 I probably have to start diggin' into boxes with floppy-disks.... Aarghhh.

The search continues.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Programs For Scientific Usage
« on: March 20, 2007, 10:57:49 am »
Thank you 2or0.

I'm currently using the octave & gnuplot combination to perform signal analysis and filter design. I'll have a look at your scientific packages as well.

I noticed that your website mentions the use of Latex. I really would like to have it running on pdaXrom. Do you know a way to perform a proper installation of latex?

Regards,
BramK.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Suspend / Screen Blanking After Inactivity Time
« on: February 21, 2007, 03:59:22 am »
When using the power/suspend button resuming fails most of the time. There is some internal disk activity. Then the screen is shown for about 0.10 of a second, and turns black again. Leaving the device in an unknown state.

The home button does not have this problem.

Try using the home key to turn it on and the power button to turn it off.
When turning it off, hold the button in for .75 seconds.
...then hop on one foot for 3.3 seconds.
(just joking about the last one)

Whoaaah... great tip! That actually works.

Not sure 'bout the hopping though, that certainly didn't work with the normal suspend button. And you have to be carefull what you're hoppin' on. Especially in crowded busses.

Sharp ROMs / Ipkg: Run As Root Or Zaurus?
« on: May 18, 2006, 09:29:15 am »
Hello,

I have a question regarding the installation of ipk packages from the command line.

When running 'ipkg install <packagename>' I always seem to run into problems.

- Installing as root sometimes results in desktop icons not showing up.
- Installing as zaurus results results in problems with the proper rights in the directories.

Is there a way to avoid these situations while installing packages from the command line?

Regards,
BramK.

been there, done that

I'm setting up some script to auto-install my applications, including dependencies and settings.

And I might even consider creating a backup...

Hi all,

While examining the /var/log/dmesg I discovered some problems with the disk partitions. I tried to solve these problems (after booting with D+B)

The following worked fine
# e2fsck -p /dev/hda1
# e2fsck -p /dev/hda2

...but this check reported an error, which it didn't fix:
# fsck.vfat -a /dev/hda3
the error: "there are differences between boot sector and its backup"

I don't have a clue how to fix this. Which boot sector is the correct one?

Can someone help me out?

thanks,
BramK

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Move /home Dir

Hi all,

Did anyone try to move the /home dir to a different location?
The 5 Mb limit is a bit frustrating.

Can it be moved to the internal disk without triggering a lot of problems due to the fact that this disk is not available when booting?

...just wonderdering,
BramK

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Installing Testu's Kernel (18a)
« on: July 28, 2005, 05:33:17 pm »
Thanks Meanie: I used your procedure with the mplayer from http://atty.jp/?Zaurus%2Fmplayer.

Today I was able to download updater.sh.c3000 from the sharp site mentioned at atty.jp. This failed before, but I found out that this was the result of using babelfish translation for the page.

The kernel installed properly.

Hi all,

I would like to install Testsu's special kernel (18a) on a C3000 for better video support. Although I found some information on the web about this, I did not find an answer to the question how to perform this kernel update.

It seems like update.sh and zImage (renamed from zImage-v18a-C3000.bin) have to be copied to a compact flash card. With that card the update can be performed.

Can anyone explain the update procedure?

And what update.sh file should be used? There are several versions for the c3000.
(for example the one from the sharp rom 1.11 update, and another one on a japanese sharp c3000 site)

Many thanks for the person who can help me out.
(..and who probably will make some other people very happy with providing the information to update the kernel).

regards,
BramK.

I fixed the links to the files and the message dissapeared.

Still can't connect to my desktop though. Qtrdesktop just closes after starting a connection.

When starting qtrdesktop from a terminal I get the following messages:
(the gui still starts, resulting in the same problem as before)
---
Could  not open translation file /home/QtPalmtop//i18n/en/libsl.qmid
Qlibrary open failed: /home/QtPalmtop/lib/libqsfepj.so, libkke.so.1: cannot load shared object file: No such file or directory
--
These seem to be related to japanese language.

For turning on the remote desktop. I turned it on, but do not have a clue what user to add for this service.

Hi all,

I installed qtrdesktop on my C3000, including the openssl libs.
When connecting to the desktop computer (XP), the qtrdesktop application shuts down. In the log I can see that port 3389 is accessed on the desktop machine.

Does anyone know what the cause might be?

Do I need to add a zaurus user to my xp machine?

regards,
BramK.
