General Discussion / Oesf Wiki Needs Love And Care
« on: May 17, 2007, 11:01:26 pm »
everybody knows the situation, without further adieu, I volunteer to take care of the following sections: SL-6000, VoIP, "Secret" Key Combinations, GPS, and will likely spill over as time permits. I will encourage people to contribute and glean information from the forum and digest them into the wiki.

Somebody will argue the wiki server (ibilio) is shaky due to the recent outages. However it is still very useful for lots of users.

General Discussion / How Many Kernel Branches For A Single Device
« on: March 15, 2007, 04:18:55 am »
Please help me to understand the current kernel status for Tosa (or other Z breed):

pdaXrom: 2.4.18 and 2.6.xx

OZ: 2.4.18 (old) and 2.6.18

along the line of sharp compatible rom

Cacko: 2.4.18
Tetsu special kernel: 2.4.18
guyhelm: 2.4.18 (a.k.a. common kernel)

for the various 2.4.18 kernels, are most of patches same or equivalent?  Are they all stemming from a common well patched version? Is it worth to dig into each one to find the best patch available or am I wasting my time?

6000 - Tosa / Tosa Development Plan
« on: March 15, 2007, 01:30:57 am »
As most of your know the 6000L is an odd breed compared to other Zauri, esp the clamshells, where availability and dev activities are high. Hence Tosa ROM version is behind others except for OZ/Angstrom where the key dev. Hrw has the device.

Current Tosa ROM status in the other popular rom is pretty disappointing

PdaXrom: beta1
Cacko: None

I've been whining for a long time without contributing. Part of the reason is that I don't know where should my effort go. I have to admit that I'm not even close to software engineer in trade and pretty inexperienced in the whole thing. But I'm pretty confident in my learning ability to get some Tosa dev going.

For a starter, I'm interested to advance PdaXrom to a stable/usable 2.4 kernel, similar to what Meanie did for pdaXii. (weed out bugs, etc. ) Who else is interested and have time to contribute? We probably need some sort of infrastructure (svn, emaillist, bugtracker, etc.) Could we borrow what's available in the PdaXrom site? Should we get together and form a team?

Btw, anybody interested in a Cacko ROM for Tosa?

I can probably commit half an hour per day for the project after my thesis defense.

For Sale / Wanted / Wanted: Sl-6000
« on: January 29, 2007, 12:25:41 pm »
I'd like to get a second Z for development purpose. I thought about acquiring a clamshell, but finally decided to stay with Tosa, which will give me two identical machines for dev and testing.

Please PM me if you have a 6000L or 6000W for sale. I'm in the US. I hate paypal and ebay fees but no problem if required.

General Discussion / Screen Quality Advancement

Are these new devices having better screens? Any real development in the LCD industry? Is Z's CG Silicon LCD still the king out there?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / 6000l Tosa Second Cf Slot
« on: January 19, 2007, 04:49:05 am »
neither OZ or PdaXrom correctly handles the second CF slot in the expansion sleeve for 6000. I'm wondering what's controlling that, which script?

btw, using cardctl, the second CF (cf2) was socket0 where the usual CF is socket1. By Sharp's convention cf2 should be /dev/hdc1.

Seems OZ traffic is in the mailing list. Should I shout this out in the mailing list?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Tosa 6000 Bug Tacking/knowledge Base
« on: October 31, 2006, 07:50:00 am »
I hope this will become the central place to track bugs related to pdaXrom1.1.0beta1 on Tosa. I will keep the thread updated and move solved issues into wiki. If the developers have a plan for future pdaXrom releases on Tosa, I will submit them to the bug tracking system. Well, does pdaXrom has a workiing bug tracker?

legend    [span style=\'font-size:12pt;line-height:100%\']*[/span] = outstanding     [span style=\'font-size:12pt;line-height:100%\']-[/span] = solved       [span style=\'font-size:12pt;line-height:100%\']/[/span] = working, moved or will be moved to wiki

[span style=\'font-size:12pt;line-height:100%\']*[/span] how to type pipe in  the console (before startx)?
[span style=\'font-size:12pt;line-height:100%\']*[/span] generally, the login shell does not set line width wisely. Text wrappings are all broken.

[span style=\'font-size:12pt;line-height:100%\']*[/span] sdl: the default sdl is probably not optimized for Tosa. e.g. supertux froze the machine using default sdl but worked smoothly with opmized sdl (by Guyhelm) in the sharp rom. I will look into this later.
[span style=\'font-size:12pt;line-height:100%\']*[/span] vi: broken vi (from busybox) in both console and terminals. The text is not wrapped and refleshed correctly after editting (i.e. pressing Esc).
[span style=\'font-size:12pt;line-height:100%\']*[/span] wlan: would be nice to have wlan stop on suspend. Then wlan start on resume

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Wireless Configure On Tosa 6000l For Pdaxrom
« on: August 11, 2006, 01:57:16 am »
I searched low and high but can't find an instruction. Tried different approaches myself, but all failed. I've been stick with the sharp stock rom for quite a while, this is my first time to try pdaXrom. Hope some more experienced Tosa user can enlighten me.

General Discussion / 6000w Vs C3200
« on: April 05, 2006, 05:02:52 am »
Trying to line up both into in terms of functionality, roughly. So according to http://kakaku.com/sku/price/003030.htm and the street prices of accessories:

6000W (Yen 79,411) $678  +  6G MD $120  ~~  $800 total
C3200 (Yen 61,480) $525 + CF WiFi $40 + CF BT $60 ~~ 625 total

I'm not optimistic that sharp would add wireless connectivity to the next zaurus release. So I'm very interested to get a 6000W before it becomes dinasour and extinguishes from the market. Anybody else as interested as I? The current price from conics and streamlinecpus are too high for me > $850 shipped. I'm thinking about asking my relative in Tokyo to get one for me. Does Akiharaba have a better in-store price for 6000W than the online price? Do they have 6000W in stock?

X/Qt / Memory Shortage When Compiling Inside X/qt
« on: March 08, 2006, 04:45:40 am »
I tried to natively compile a GUI program in X/Qt. However, during the make process, it often popped up a window saying that memory of the workspace was too low (suggesting me to close X/Qt). Frequently X/Qt was automatically shut down due to insufficient memory. Although I did enable 256Mb swap space, it was hardly used by more than half as I monitored.

Anybody had experience with this. Is such a compiling prohibitive in nature due to Z's memory limitation?

Software / Ssh Client On Zaurus
« on: February 04, 2006, 05:19:57 am »
Supposed to be a stupid and common question. But nothing comes close from the Howto and forum search results.

installed openssh-client 3.6.1p1 and openssh-addon 3.6.1p1. Run ssh-user-keygen.sh

ssh [hostname]  just returned me to the prompt. Even ssh -V didn't tell me anything. Any ideas?

telnet works fine, as well as ssh in the X/Qt Debian chroot.
