6000 - Tosa / 2.6.x Kernel?
« on: June 26, 2006, 12:41:12 am »
I've been seeing sporadic mentions of 2.6.x kernels in development for the 6000 (Tosa).

Can anyone comment on how close we are to having a stable *modern* kernel?

Thanks,
Randall

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Current Version For 6000 (tosa)?
« on: May 04, 2006, 02:10:39 pm »
Hi,

I'm considering reflashing my 6000 using pdaXrom. Last time I did this, beta1 was freshly released.

As it has been a few months, I thought I'd check in to see if there has been any major developments since then.

Thanks,
Randall.

Wow, this thing is tiny and look at the specs below...

What do you guys/gals think? Aside from the obviously high(er) price, is this the Zaurus we need?

Cheers,
Randall.

Accessories / Bluetooth Laser Virtual Keyboard
« on: April 12, 2006, 10:31:26 am »
This would make an amazing Z accessory! It says that it's Windoze only, but hoping someone in Z land will have the savvy to get in working with Linux...

This tiny device laser-projects a keyboard on any flat surface... you can then type away accompanied by simulated key click sounds. It really is true future magic at its best. You'll be turning heads the moment you pull this baby from your pocket and use it to compose an e-mail on your bluetooth enabled PDA or Cell Phone. With 63 keys and and full size QWERTY layout the Laser Virtual Keyboard can approach typing speeds of a standard keyboard... in a size a little larger than a matchbook.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / 1.1.0beta1: That Mysterious Charge Led
« on: April 04, 2006, 04:53:47 pm »
I discovered a new behaviour on pdaXrom 1.1.0beta1 today on 6000 (Tosa):

This is the old (known) part: When pdaXrom is installed the LED charging indicator will not go off unless the until is powered on. Annoying.

This is the new part: When the same conditions as above exist, except that there is no SD card present, the LED charging indicator will behave as it should, both when the 6000 is on and off.

I'm not sure whether this information is useful to the pdaXrom developers, or to other users, but I just had to get that out... Perhaps the charging LED bug is somehow related to the SD card driver?

Cheers,
Randall.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / 1.1.0beta1 "kathrin": Symbolic Links To Card?
« on: April 04, 2006, 04:24:05 pm »
Hi,

For some reason, my 6000 (tosa) running 1.1.0beta1 cannot resolve the symbolic links that were once present and pointed happily to my SD card. I have verified that the card is still fine (big relief!) by mounting it on another system.

Could someone out there who's running 1.1.0beta1 and who has an active and mounted SD card please provide the output of the following (as root):

Code: [Select]
cd /
ls -l

I believe there will be 3 entries in the output that begin with "lrwxrwxrwx" i.e, they are symbolic links. Those are the 3 that I am interested in.

Thanks in advance.
Randall.

Sharp ROMs / Tetris: Best Version For Sharp Rom?
« on: April 04, 2006, 01:54:15 pm »
Hi,

I'm looking for the best version of Tetris available for the (stock) Sharp ROM. I've had only sporadic success trolling the various download sites. Perhaps there's a Tetris fan out there that has already figured this one out. (Bonus points if it is free.)

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Randall.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / 1.1.0beta1: Interactive Boot Sequence?
« on: March 27, 2006, 04:26:36 pm »
Hi,

I did something (silly) and installed ntp to my working system (1.1.0beta1 on 6000). Now every time I boot the Z i get the following messages, then nothing... the system just hangs:

ntpdate[291]: no servers can be used, exiting

I suspect that this is due to ntp wanting/needing to query ntp servers on the internet. Instead of ntp timing out, it just hangs the whole boot process. Nasty.

Is there a way to boot interactively so I can tell the system not to launch ntp, then go in and remove it?

Failing that, any other suggestions?

thanks in advance,
Randall

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Gaim 2.0 For Pdaxrom?
« on: March 23, 2006, 12:17:51 am »
Hi,

I'm looking for an updated version of Gaim. The one in the current pdaxrom 1.1.0beta1 feed is Gaim 1.5.0. It is only partially functional as Jabber crashes  and limited plugin support.

Does anyone know if a more recent version of Gaim has been packaged yet? Ideally version 2.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I'm attempting to install Firefox (firefox_1.0.6-r0) from the feed.

Typing the following:

     ipkg update
ipkg install firefox -d sd      <-- i want to install to SD card

Installation appears to proceed normally (firefox downloads from the feed), then I get the following error:

ERROR: Cannot satisfy the following dependencies for firefox:
                      gconf-osso (>= 2.6.4.3.1osso13) osso-gnome-vfs2 (>= 2.8.4.4-1) osso-gnome-vfs2
     (>=2.8.4.4-1) gconf-osso (>= 2.6.4.3.1osso13)

Any tips on how to make this work?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Randall
