Deals and Great Z Buys / Seagate 8gb Microdrives On Ebay

Greetings,

I noticed a lot of Seagate 8GB CF drives for less than $160 nowadays, and decided to pick up one.
It works OK in my SL-C1000, and having so much space available for games, music and movies is nice.

A lot of them are selling for $153. Just browse http://search.ebay.com/8GB-seagate-CF and chose one.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Scummvm 0.8.0, Another Great Release

I compiled ScummVM 0.8.0 for iWMMX PXA270 (ie SL-Cxx00 on RC12). It works great in 640x480 fullscreen (instead of 320x240 with older versions). All your Lucas Art games should run (including Monkey Island 3 if you set your CPU @ 624 Mhz) and a lot more (Beneath a Steel Sky, Fight of the Amazon Queen, Broken Sword ... are freely downloadable on http://www.scummvm.org/downloads.php). MP3-Compressed monster.so3 is supported with DOTT (tested and recommanded) but .sog OGG-compressed won't work.

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Build Cheap Replacement Batteries ?

After some hardcore modding of my SL-C1000 (adding internal 512Mb flash + Wifi ...) I think I slightly fried my battery (yes, it made a nice frying noise and leaked some odd and probably toxical stuff ...) but anyway, a replacement costs at least $80 which is naturally a lot too much.
So I had the idea of building my own battery, got the idea because I use a PSP charger and it occured that PSP uses a 3.7V 1800mAh battery, ie exactly the same specs than the Zaurus'. I found a kinda no name one for 30€ and opened it. It's exactly the same size and it fits the zaurus battery slot well, exept for the very different plug the PSP battery has. I tested the battery pins and there is a ground, a charing + and a debit +, but not in the same order (ground is in the middle).

Does anyone here ever tried to build a battery this way ? Do you think it may work if I add connectors to the correct battery pins (I don't see why it wouldn't). Thanks for any advice !

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Just Compiled : Mplayer 1.0pre7 & Scummvm 0.7.1

Hi there, after a lot of tweaking I finally got the latest mplayer (1.0pre7) compiled for pdaXrom.
If someone would like to give it a try, you may find an ipk on http://zaurus.maxg.info

Please note that it depends on some package that you will find in the pdaX feeds (see http://mail.pdaxrom.org/rc10/)

It was built with quite a lot of codecs, most AVI and all MPG files should open without reencoding, if they are playable by the Zaurus (ie not too big !)

If you just install the package and open a video, you won't notice any difference with the 1.0pre5 of the pdaX feed.
However, I included an optimized config file in the IPK. Install it by typing

cp /etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf ~/.mplayer/conf
This will use Xfbdev for video output, which is rather fast. I got the best result without X (fbdev doesn't need a started X server). In the pdaX root console try

mplayer /path/to/video/file -fs
So, do you notice any difference ? Please give some feedbacks !

P.S : this was only tested on SL-C1000. SL-6000 users, I'm curious to know whether it plays videos in portrait or landscape mode ?

I've added the IPK of ScummVM 0.7.1 as well. It compiled flawlessy. Now I can play the Curse of Monkey Island, Fight of the Amazon Queen and Broken Sword on the Zaurus, yay ! Use CTRL+F or CTRL+G if you have some lag, it sometimes helps.

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Trade My Sl-6000l For A Sl-c(3/1)000

I own a SL-6000L since chrismas but now that the new clamshell models are out I naturally want to upgrade... If someone has a 3k or 1k and isn't happy with it (or would like to try the 6000, which is an excellent choice), I would really like to trade it with my 6k in good condition. I'm ready to offer a 1GB CF card with it, and complete with some money to make the deal fair. I saw someone on the forum who has done this before, so I give it a try ... After all, I could sell it on eBay but that would add some fees.
