Zaurus - pdaXrom / MacOS, Amiga 1.x, and Amiga 3.x themes
« on: April 22, 2004, 01:39:45 am »
Update:

Well, I decided to add a new theme since AmigaOS 4.x SDK went gold.  While I have no real interest in OS 4.x from a dev side, the icons are pretty spiffy.  I\'ve always been a fan of the GlowIcon set on other OS and 4.0\'s looks pretty good.

So with PS in hand I pulled out almost 200(!) icons from OS 4.0 Screen Grabs.  They are all PNGs so they can be used with any OS really.  I will put them up shortly.

Hello all,

I\'ve been working on some new themes to replace the icons et al on the current pdaxrom.  They are currently in a \'work in progress\' state but very close to being released.

« on: April 14, 2004, 02:05:50 pm »
Well, I\'m a bit north of you folks in Fort Wayne.  However, my in-laws live in Indy and that is where my wife is from.  Maybe if I can find out dates for meetings I can arrange one of our trips down at the same time.

Cxx0 Hardware / repair advice for bad NAND blocks
« on: April 10, 2004, 01:51:53 pm »
Michael,

Do we (the community) have anybody in Japan that could handle the repair for you?  Example:  Send it to him, he sends/gives it to Sharp, sends it back to you after its repaired.  Of course you pay for all the shipping, etc...  or You send to Sharp, Sharp sends to Fellow Zaurus User in Japan, he sends it back to you.  Again, you pay for any shipping costs.

I know there Z fans in Japan but I didn\'t know if any of them are also on this forum.  I think a few of them wouldn\'t mind helping their fellow Z users in the US.

Just a thought....

Cxx0 Hardware / repair advice for bad NAND blocks
« on: April 10, 2004, 01:37:43 am »
Hi Michael,

Here is my info for working with Sharp Japan.  I was having some issues with my 760 and I wanted to find out my support options with Sharp Japan since Sharp USA has no idea what is going on.  I faxed over a letter to Sharp Corp asking for an email for Sharp Tech Support Japan which included my email address.  This guy emailed me:

takeda.shuhhei@sharp.co.jp

With this email:

Takeda-S wrote:

Dear Sir,

Thank you very much for using a Sharp Zaurus.

Please forward your query to the following e-mail address:  .

    customer@cmn.hirano.sharp.co.jp

Best regards,

Takeda, Sharp-Japan

So I forwarded my request to the email Takeda sent me.  I didn\'t hear anything for like 36 hours so I sent another to Takeda about not getting any help.  I just figured it might be an English language problem.

Takeda responded right away with these to CC telling me Sharp will get back with me right away.

nishimura.masami@sharp.co.jp,  icdc@sesl.global.sharp.co.jp

THen I got an email from this person:

kohzai.wataru@sharp.co.jp

with these emails CC\'d:

shintaku.toshinobu@sharp.co.jp
takeda.shuhhei@sharp.co.jp

Now I would email all these folks with one email detailing your problem and asking for help.  I think its amazing that Sharp Japan won\'t give us help.  I mean I got my 760 from Japan to my house in 3 days for $35 so I know its not a shipping cost issue.  I just think its poor of Sharp to not give us support when its really not that big of a deal.

</rant>

Anyway, Michael, I really feel for you and I wanted to give you all the info/email address\'s that I had.  I hope it helps and good luck!!!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / mmhart.com site update
« on: January 30, 2004, 11:22:04 am »
Hello all,

If anybody has been trying to grab my Zaurus port\'s (http://www.mmhart.com/zaurus_on_mmhartcom.htm), ftp, email me,  or get me on IRC, my apologies.  To my utter surprise, one of the largest ISPs in Northern Indiana southern Canada filed bankruptcy.  While they gave us a week\'s notice before they were going to turn off everything, creditors showed up two days after their notice and started to collect unpaid hardware which really made a disaster of things.

To be honest, it turned my digital life upside down.  They hosted my DNS and a spare mail server (I have no idea how many emails I\'ve lost) among other things and well its not the week I had imagined.  :-)

Anyway, I believe I\'ve got things moved and up and running again and didn\'t want people to think another Zaurus site had just disappeared.

If you find a link doesn\'t work or you run into another problem drop me a line and I\'ll take a look,
Mark

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Emulators, libc, and more
« on: January 18, 2004, 11:06:29 am »
Of course I\'m going to release everything I do on the Z.  Here is my web site: http://www.mmhart.com/zaurus_on_mmhartcom.htm

ckeswani thanks for the script!  I\'m going to tryi it out now.

As for an Apple II emulator, I have not been able to compile any Apple II emmy I\'ve found for the Z.  I know that Lord Davon was doing KEGS but I think there was a problem with it.  I too would like to get an Apple II Emulator working for the Z so if there are any suggestions I would love to hear them.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Emulators, libc, and more
« on: January 18, 2004, 01:02:34 am »
Hello all!

I\'ve been busy with my new 760 and compiling new emulators for it and the X11 ROM (which just rocks!).

I\'ve compiled all of VICE now for the 760 as well as some other emulators.  I\'m also trying to compile SheepShaver which is a PowerMAC (yes you read that right) emulator for Linux.  I did Basilisk II which runs great on the 760 -given the higher screen res- so I thought it would be cool to try SheepShaver since the latest version support other CPUs than x86.

Oh, and the new Amiga Emulator based on UAE.

I have two questions (dumb?) that I\'m hoping some folks could help with:

1.  I\'m not compiling on the Z so when the compile is done I can check whicih libs the exe is going to need with ldd.  Is there any handy command that would allow me to ldd the exe and then copy the libs that it needs to a certain directory?

2.  Now, I\'ve only had my 760 a week so I\'m still in 5500 mode but I need a newer version of glibc (2.3 or higher).  I\'ve gone out and grabed glibc_2.3.2-1_arm.ipk but I\'m having problems installing it.

If I use ipkg install glibc_2.3.2-1_arm.ipk it gives me an error and suggests that I might need to update.

If I run Qpack its also unhappy with the file.

Is this because ipkg looks at ipkg.conf and wants to go online instead of just installing the ipk I\'ve specified?

Is there a better way to install this that I\'m just plain missing here?

Thanks for any help!

General Discussion / Service Menu Question in 7x0/8x0s
« on: January 07, 2004, 02:42:31 pm »
This  might have been asked before but I didn\'t see it when I was browsing the forums, but is it possible to convert the Service Menu/Boot Menu to English?  I mean I would be happy to do the work but I didn\'t know if you can \'flash\' that part of the Zaurus?

Thanks,
-P

PS:
I just got my 760 today and sold my 5500 to a guy in LA.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Any plans to support 5x00?
« on: December 12, 2003, 02:15:31 pm »
I would love an X11 rom!  So many tasty apps to run native under X11 that it would be worth trying with the smaller screen and rom size on the 5x00 series.

I all ready run some X11 stuff with the X11 port under the Sharp ROM but I have long thought an X11 ROM would be very cool to use!
