Sharp ROMs / Qtopia 1.6
« on: September 28, 2007, 10:00:10 am »
esix has a copy of the hybrid rom. the only problem with it is that the current revision of it (if thet ever existed) is made of miserable fail.

i tried copying the appliction files onto a cf card and saying "ipkg install *.ipk" but it failed saying "user 'lolcats' does not own the directory /var/home/QtPalmtop/ "

i would presume that my mac is trying to invade the ipks but it isnt... its a fat formatted card... so needless to say i  went to a linux box and tried it. this time it wroked until the applets... this nade ipkg go "i cant install this because you are either not root or do not have the user id of -682595268452568"

i'd so dearly love to be able to put files on my z wothout having to use 4 different systems (ssh tunnel to my dev box to my z using scp -- i cant directly scp because fugu is broken.)

any ideas?

i dont want to use the home-on-sd initrd with the hybrid rom because they apparently dont go together properly...

So I already have a 1gig Home on SD Cacko (obviously)... so effectively, to use the 2gig update, i'd simply shove this onto a CF card formatted fat16, Bootable, shove that into my Z, flash, reset, run? does this also fix the Cant-Sync-With-QTopia problem?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=167804\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Point 1: Not quite. You'd need to run the home-on-sd script and reinstall all your apps. I find that sticking all the ipks on the flashing CF card is useful. Then just ipkg install *.ipk from the console while in the /mnt/cf directory. If you then use the package installer and uninstall one of your apps and then reinstall the links are sorted for you.

I had the home-on-sd script once uppon a time (I tried a TCK2.0/beta2 on SD... it didnt work...), but i lost it.

Point 2: Do you mean synching with Qtopia desktop in Linux? If so, no joy, this was lost with the Sharp 3.10 roms.

Cheers

and not quite -- i just want the built in FTP server so i can get files onto it... i've tried tftpd-2 and its going insane....

Cant we silently overlay qtopia-1.6 ontop of a sharp rom?

Not to be too mean-spirited about it, I really get a lot out of oesf, but when I read your post the first thing I did was check for the year it was posted

See My Upper Post. I loved the idea behind the ZUG downloads but we need to punch offroadgeek in the gut to get him workin... If ti means using an old archive version of phpnuke or going over to a totally new CMS i'll do whatever I can to help. that is, aling with work and school... the bastards... always taking my time away from my love of techl

5x00 General discussions / Has Anyone Loaded Qtopia 2.1.2?
« on: September 23, 2007, 11:08:55 am »
To Answer your question stef (note, i understand this thread is OLD but i need something to do!)
the internal flash is good for 400 000 000 write cycles. thats some 2000 flashings.with normal use. Same goes for the SD cards (at least normal ones, "Ultra SD" cards can handle about 800 000 000 000) and the CF Cards (same applies for "ultra" cards)

BTW, Hybrid rom came and went... is there a way to stealthily overlay 1.6 or 1.7 on top of 1.5?

Now I did find this: Http://elsix.org/downloads/hybrid/ and sucked down the "Qtopia-applications-1.6.1.tar.gz" file

Have you gotten a stock cacko-5500 to sync with QTopia Desktop?

Sharp ROMs / "hidden" Documents Menu

I've had this problem as long as I can remember. However, for almost that long I've been using OpenBSD on my Zaurus (it's dual-boot), so when I recently started using Cacko again I noticed the annoyance and now I'm posting it here.

It seems that the "Documents" folder, ie /home/zaurus/Documents, is unaccessible to the Qtopia gui. I can't browse my files there under the 'Files' tab, when I'm changing wallpaper in Plasterer or the Appearance applications I can't browse there either. (I CAN change my wallpaper, but only if I manually type out the path myself. Read access to the files, but not the folders? They have the same permissions, though...)

It works fine in the console, though. I can browse there, whathaveyou...

My /home/zaurus/Documents folder is not a symlink anywhere else. The permissions are zaurus:qpe, and of course, 755 permissions set for the folder and all contents.

/home/root/Documents seems to link right back to /home/zaurus/Documents.

I am entirely unsure what it's supposed to be, or how I can allow my Qtopia applications access to this folder. It's not so big a deal for me - I'm much more of a console guy anyways...but as it currently stands I can't really use many of the Qtopia applications properly.

nermanermanermanerma... *magic happens!*

What version of QTopia are you running? what version of Cacko? are you RUNNING OFF THE SD CARD??? (*spastic sersiure*)
if the SD card is running, check that sdmgr or cardmgr is running -- if it is, kill it. if not, start it to see if it sees the sd card.

Sharp ROMs / Configuring Qpe-terminal

I'm starting to think it's related to how the OS starts.  I do note that in Zynergy or Sharp ROM it does launch as zaurus and it seems in Watapon, it starts as root though I'd have to reflash to answer it definitively, which I don't want because this is quite customized already to what I like.

This is kind of scary, but I hope there's a way to fiddle this to launch as zaurus instead of root.  init perhaps?  Hmm...
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=161291\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

waaaait... you have a CF card right?
do a backup to a CF card after you clear it out...

that would be the simplest...

i just flashed theKompany and i get the same thing. it _appears_ to be related to who spawned the app... you could try doing some other rom (ie oz from rootfs loopback- http://pengunassasin.kicks-ass.org/zaurus/ ) or try ssh'ing into your z... if ssh as "zaurus" with password " " or "" dosent work... its the rom... i would either A) reflash or  get over it

Sharp ROMs / Add An Icon To A Tab And Set The App To Open

Thanks very much for that, I've created a few links to pages and they worked great once I added execute permissions.

One more question please if I may? I want to create another icon to load a console app.

I have tried variations on what you gave me above but have been unable to get the link to work. I want to open QKonsole and then start hexedit. What do I need to put in the script to do this?

Thanks again.

hmmMMMmmMMMMm
I tried doing this a while ago.... theres a Way to do this.
i BELIVE qkonsole has a command line option on what shell to use. you can set this to something like "foo.sh" where foo.sh has the line "bash -e /path/to/app"

that help?

I don't have the size to do a system backup.  So, I'm afraid that wouldn't work.

I just installed qkonsole and checked what it would start as.  But it starts as root also.  Does that mean something is wrong with my ROM?

I wonder what the solution could be.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=161107\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

well, you can always see if theres a .bash_profile in /home/zaurus/ - if that contains "su" or "sudo su" or something like that - thats a start

Also, is your HOME on an SD card?

theres two consoles you can use: Konsole (real one from KDE) or qpe-terminal (the sharp one)
NOTE: Konsole has a config screen (ie you can make up special terminals for say kismet)
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=160842\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I'll try to check again when I get the chance later.  Would installing another terminal application help?  I wonder...
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=160887\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

yes it would
you can even go DIRECTLY into a shell by hitting the "/?" button when qTopia says "wait...N"
go to shutdown and click "terminate QTopia"

Sharp ROMs / Re-enable Ftp Sync On V3 Rom
« on: May 09, 2007, 05:32:09 pm »
OK. there is a way to do this. simply do this at a terminal
Code: [Select]
su
echo "checking if we can get the initial port 21:"
nc localhost 21
echo "forwarding port 21 to port 4242 via netcat tunneling"
nc -l -p 4242 | nc localhost 21

this should allow you to access your Z via FTP on Port 4242 (the FTP sync port) on v3 roms with the troll-ftpd package (or any other ftp daemon that can run / as /home/documents/Zaurus/)
