I do not plan to even look at 2.4-crapix kernel.

check firmware of card (run 'hostap_diag wlan0') - it need STA 1.7.0 or later.

You can load firmware to ram of card with 'prism2_srec -r /etc/pcmcia/rf010804.hex wlan0' after card insert.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / New Pdaxrom Release R197
« on: April 27, 2007, 09:35:51 am »
I wonder when pdaXrom team will ask OpenEmbedded developers for help or atleast will check what we ship and how.

Spectrum cards working out of box is just a matter of firmware package and script which upload it after card insert.
Battery working is a matter of kernel - pdaX still use 2.6.16 which we dropped weeks ago as 2.6.20 works OK for us.
Touchscreen configuration for 2.6 on Zaurus is easy too - we ship working one.

When will pdaX ship something what works? (I know that Ångström images have bugs but not so lowlevel ones)

edit: I tend to think HRW is on the money here--despite his sounding like users are an inconvenience (which I'm pretty sure isn't what he meant)--  we can probably tweak a very usable angstrom/altboot for tosa, and it really would be better on 2.6[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=159435\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Users are not inconvenience for me - u-boot is. Instalation should be easy if not easier - thats why last OZ releases provided 'install kits' which user just need to unpack to card to get all files for flashing.

About those CLISP texts - I am open to give upload access to feeds for developers so official feeds can be updated and contrib feeds can be created - for example with 3.5.4 we had contrib feed with emacs (built on Zaurus). And anyone can join us - if you are good in tweaking system image and can provide patches but do not know how to use OE you are welcome too - we can work together to create something working for you and other users.

6000 - Tosa / Tosa Development Plan
« on: April 20, 2007, 09:52:59 am »
Ok. Let me write few words.

Yes, I have a tosa here. It is OpenEmbedded project device which can be sent to other developer (EU preferred) which will work on getting Ångström working on it. I am too buried in other projects to take care of it.

Any work on kernel 2.4 is waste of time and resources. Even unfinished 2.6.17 is better then 2.4.18 ever was. It has ugly vertical lines artifacts but each system other then original SharpROM has it. http://bugs.openembedded.org/show_bug.cgi?id=490 contain some information why the problem exists.

Under 2.6 every part of hardware is working. WiFi need to be off before suspend but same problem existed under 2.4 because drivers are SHIT. Hardware buttons are recognized and working - any functionality can be attached to keypress.

Speaking about u-boot... It is nice bootloader but I would keep sharp crap instead. The reason is simple: USERS. When pdaXrom switched to u-boot we have many users which complained that they bricked their devices etc.

Tosa with 2.6.17 kernel works very nice. To use newer versions someone need to update Toshiba USB Host driver.

Orange artifacts are common in most of non-Sharp kernels. Someone in OE bugtracker wrote that this is a matter of proper aligning of few structures on each write.

Under 2.6 there is no way to disable USB WiFi port.

Cxx0 Hardware / You Gotta Be Kidding Me!

Longer story:

Some cards are handled by orinoco_cs and hostap_cs drivers. Under 2.6 kernel mappings are in driver code instead of /etc/pcmcia/*conf* files so to get card working under hostap we need to patch orinoco_cs to not list some cards as supported. The problem is that many cards are 0x0156, 0x0002 (iirc) and some of them are not handled by hostap_cs because this vendor_id/product_id was used by first Orinoco cards and many vendors copied it blindly when they created own Orinoco or Prism based cards.

D-Link DCF-660W is one of such problematic cards. I have one of them at home but it has problems with getting any wireless working (I suspect PCB breakage).

it is very poor \O/
dates starts witha gconf error, there's no settings apps, no taskbar, nothing new...

the differences between oz and poky are very few: lots of game and a new web browser, but no other apps
a newer kernel... and that's it ![div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=152663\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Poky builds are not for end users.

LOL

9 years old application (so rather not maintained anymore) written in Tcl/Tk (so looks shitty)...

it will take extra disk space for tcl/tk and will not support any formats newer then 1998... You sure that you want it?

General Discussion / Zaurus Out Of Production?

Sharp seems to have their hands in many technologies, they are now producing the blue laser for blu-ray and hd-dvd units.[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=150947\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Sharp always preffered to be technology creator rather then device creator. They released c700 to show their new CG Silicon screens to the world.

I will also not give up on my C3100 and am wondering what will happen now as both pdaxrom and Oz are unfinished.[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=150951\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

OpenZaurus developers are working on 3.5.5 release for all existing models (except SL-A300 as usual). After release most of us will probably concentrate on fixing bugs, adding software and will move to Ångström distribution as this is future of embedded distros.
