Yes, Audiovox RTM8000 works great for zaurus. You may need some setup changes in the serial config file, and add a modified serial_cs module (available in the ZUG download area under drivers), and there\'s a how-to in the security/networking area.

I don\'t know much about T-Mobile, I use Fido in Canada. Their unlimited plan is limited. I got a warning mail that I was exceding my monthly limit on their unlimited plan

ORG, I\'m getting the exact opposite behaviour. I\'m using a Buffalo card, in case that matters.

When I\'m using wlan-ng.conf, the status works fine. When I use hermes.conf, I get the weak signal/red warning all the time, even when I\'m close to my wireless router/AP. I think it\'s a false warning, as the connection seems fast. But the warning text prevent me from clicking anything on the task bar until it disappers for a few seconds.

can I have people clarify one thing... are people having connectivity issues with the ZUG site (forums, wiki, faq, etc.) or the downloads,community mirror?  the reason I ask is that the main ZUG site is on a server at a colo facility, and the latter is on a server at home (on dsl).  So I would expect minor outages with the downloads, community mirror, etc due to simple dsl connectivity issues, and absolutely no down time with the ZUG site.

can I ask that if people are experiencing issues with connecting to the ZUG site, please email zugadmin at zaurususergroup.com with a quick note saying so (maybe even include the error you\'re getting).

I was not able to access the forum, but I did not try the rest of the site or download area. I just assumed the site was down, based on the message I got.

Today I had no problems, but if this happens again, I\'ll email you with a traceroute.

tamarian--Please explain a little more about what you did.  Did you comment the Buffalo card out of the wlan-ng.conf file?  Did you rename wlan-ng.conf to .wlan-ng.conf?  Did you add the Buffalo card to the .hermes.conf and specify that the orinico drivers should be used for it?  Did you rename .hermes.conf to hermes.conf?  Finally did you restart using the /etc/rc.d/init.d/pcmcia restart command?  Thanks for your help.

I followed the instructions:

mv wlan-ng.conf .wlan-ng.conf

mv .hermes.conf hermes.conf

And then added my card info (obtained through cardctl ident) to hermes.conf:

/etc/rc.d/init.d/pcmcia restart

Then reinsert your card.

Let me know if orinico drivers work better.

When I install host-ap drivers my wifi stops working all together.  When I uninstall them everything is fine once again. 

Me too. I guess this depends on the card you\'re using. I\'m using the Buffalo Wi-Fi, and installing hostap doesn\'t work.

Is there anything like cron (which I\'ve never used, but I understand it is for scheduling automated events) for the Z, and could it be used to trigger a mail check once or twice an hour?

There is a port of cron for zaurus:

It works great as a cron, but I never tried to use it for email.

Flashed it using 26 megs. and all is working great!

I\'ll repeat my post on the intermediate build:

The new ROM looks great. I used 30 megs, no problems. And it\'s a lot faster. GPRS CF installed fine. This is the first time I tried Opera, since it was always slow compared to Netfront. But Opera 7 is looking good.

re: dev board search. It might be hopeless to get sharp to give out the old database (possibly for fear of privacy issues, since the old database will contain registrants emails, passwords, and private messages).

So it might be worth it to just install a search script on the mirror directory to search it as flat files. This will at least help searching for old posts.

Another alternative (might be very time consuming though) is to write a php import script, to suck in the old posts as ZUG posts. Too much work, I think, so a simple search script looks attractive, something like phpDig, etc.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Express flash tip

For the last few days I've been trying all ROM's, flashing 2-4 times a day

Whle doing so, I found a quick trick to speed up things.

To get to the flash menu, no need to unplug, take out the battery and wait 5 seconds. Just reboot (from the menu or command line 'reboot'), and while it's rebooting, just press OK button. The flash menu will show up iimmediately.

Maybe some of you are already doing it this way, but thought I'd share the tip, since it's new to me. It's a time saver if you flash a lot (I mean the ROM)
