Software / xmms problem : can anybody translate German?
« on: February 29, 2004, 02:34:34 am »
It seems this German fellow is having the exact same problem I am having trying to get xmms to go on a sharp rom and a 5600.

http://zaurus.help4free.de/html/modules/ne...d=2072&forum=16

It seems I have to do some symlinking but I can\'t seem to figure out what the answer is.

Here is the last few lines from trying to run xmms at the command line running as zaurus:

Sharp ROMs / zynergy and Sharp media player with codecs
« on: February 27, 2004, 10:45:01 pm »
Hey all.

first want to say I\'m back in business with a non-bricked zaurus ... thanks all for your input.

The zaurus 5600 is up now from being a piece of shit to being an ok device.

I\'ve settled for now on the zynergy rom.

Has anyone had trouble playing mp3\'s with the Sharp Media Player with codecs?

This is the one I installed, and it installed without issues... starts without issues... just won\'t play a darn thing.  heh.

sharp-media_1.5.0_arm-withcodecs.ipk

also installed :jeode-demos_1.10.6_arm.ipk

just for good measure ... still no go.

Thanks again

I have a 5600 pxa250.

I can\'t restore my NAND backup from my CF. The message is the same \"file not found\". I put the name in uppercase and in lowercase and I get the same result

yup. me too.  I have this same problem.

I was able to get back going, however by including the mversion.bin file on the cf card along with updater.sh, initrd.bin, and zImage.bin and doing a regular maintenance menu cf update.

so at-least I\'ve been unbricked for the moment.

ced:  I am in a similar situation.  I am soon to do a nand backup up using the 5600 pxa250 posted ... did you need to save it to lowercase?  can i leave it in uppercase on my cf card?  SYST5600.DBK

btw any howtos on this? heh.

Lardman,

I tried the oz 336-pre and that gave me a root solely.  I wasnt really in the mood to play with the command line since I was looking for a decent gui... anyway, I ended up trying to flash 335, then the latest sharp rom.

NOW  the powerup button (CANCEL) does absolutely NOTHING.

I CAN atleast get into the Maintenance menu ...

If I go through the update by USB choices it will provide a kernel error message saying something like
modprobe: cant locate devinfo ... or something like that.

it can  reflash the ROM

BUT... when I try to reformat it goes dead.   :x

That\'s it! thats all this little sucker does.

Foxdie, there is no Nand option on the 5600 Maintenenace menu, so I guess Im screwed??!!??

sh: can\'t locate devinfo

a couple of root prompts later and viola, we have a warranty problem.

after maintenenance menu, and ALL choices   explored... the machine will not boot

Fk((&.  This was just too much trouble and just a waste of 500 dollars cash.

I had fun for about 70 hours of trying to make it work... right.

and with my previous experiences with japanese I MEAN PANASONIC co\'s I know right now this route wont get me anywhere other than a 90$ repair bill.

any advice would appreciated, but please dont be so stupid as to tell me to read the howtos.

the 5600 with pxa2500 is way worse than the sl5000 because atleast there is some SOFTWARE written for it!

THE 5600 is a piece of shit

So far after 2 days of playing around with Zynergy I can say I like it.  My only issue with it at this point is no mediaplayer.  Now, mediaplayer is available for it with the codecs, and I have successfully installed it with ipkg install, I just cant get it to actually PLAY anything.

Security and Networking / sufin with USB zaurus and XP ... why no go?
« on: February 20, 2004, 11:00:25 pm »
major breakthrough:  got it working!

it seems there were 2 issues.

The routeadd.sh script apparently was not being executed from /etc/hotplug/
this problem is yet to be resolved.

The metrics on the laptop needed tweaking.  it seems that windows gave equal metrics to both default routes.  what i ended up doing was giving a metric of 35 instead of the automatic 30 to the zaurus interface adapter.

Ahhh, its just more of an exercise (in futility??)   for me than anything else.  I am just trying to see what this little thing can do.   I am really psyched for the day when I can browse my network and play in hifi any song I want from my fileservers ... and yes ... I will need a wifi card for that.  Any suggestions for a decent wifi cf card?

btw I have the \"old\" 250 processor in my 5600 ... does anybody know about the supposed bug fix kernel ... how bout oz ???

danks!

Well, I think I need a little help. :?:

What I want to do is surf through the zaurus using docking station connected to laptop.  Read the howto many times.  Tried just about every combination.

Here is my basic set up:

wifi Router IP:   192.168.1.1

wireless laptop:   192.168.1.225 mask 255.255.255.0
I have no problems surfing with Laptop alone.

zaurus IP: 192.168.0.100 255.255.255.0
connected via docking station to laptop...

zaurus SL series ver 3 (USB laptop):  192.168.0.1 mask 255.255.255.0
this is the zaurus/laptop interface on the laptop

dns set to internet provider\'s dns on all

I CAN ping back and forth from laptop to Zaurus, no prob.  I CANNOT ping to router.

I have set the wifi connection for ICS (tried it on and off) also tried the network wizard for bridging.

I just cannot ping the wireless adapter address (192.168.1.225) nor the router ... and obviously not google.  megga frustrating!

this is route PRINT from the laptop
