General Discussion / Snes Emulation?
« on: December 21, 2004, 12:13:14 pm »
Runs on my SL-C750 at about 50% speed. So games at 60fps will have their frame rate dropped to 30fps which is still absolutley fine.

Accessories / Core-sounds Pda Audio
« on: December 21, 2004, 12:10:41 pm »
Just had a look at that Core-sounds thing and it's only a digital in. You can't plug a mic into it or anything, you need a separate A-D converter for that. As it stands, I think it's pretty useless.

6000 - Tosa / Zaurus Musicians
« on: December 09, 2004, 11:59:58 am »
I've just found and compiled FunktrackerGOLD. It was originally a DOS-based tracker, but converted to Linux.

I've tried to load the example files and it doesn't work. I'll have a look at it later. For now though. I've placed it here. Just copy it to the Zaurus and run it via a terminal.

Software / Looking For A Full Speed Spectrum Emulator
« on: December 09, 2004, 09:44:10 am »
Does anyone know of a good ZX Spectrum emulator on the Zaurus? The Java ones are incredibly slow.

I found fbzx, an SDL spectrum emulator and got it compiled and working, but it's as slow as its Java counterparts.

Anybody else got any leads?

Thanks.

Sharp ROMs / Recommended Wireless Cf

I got one of those Linksys ones, and while it worked fine, it wasn't very robust and eventually broke. A connection inside broke somewhere, so it would sort of work of I pushed the card upwards while inside the slot.

I wouldn't recommend it if you are going to be carrying it around with you without a hard plastic case to put it in.

ELSI General Discussion / Has ZSI died?
« on: September 24, 2004, 05:06:42 am »
Best system I've ever used is Aminet, the Amiga software collection. All files are stored on FTP. Submissions are not accepted unless they have an accompanying .readme file that conforms to the template. There are many mirrors, it's very easy to search. It's very much in the KISS (keep it simple, stupid) mentality of design. CDs used to be sold containing the latest submissions.

A version of Aminet for the Zaurus would be ideal. It is a great system.

General Discussion / Buying a new Z SL-C7x0 from Japan?
« on: July 08, 2004, 08:05:33 am »
I bought my SL-C750 in Tokyo last July, about two weeks after they were released. I knew absolutely nothing about it, didn't know whether I could change the language or anything.

It all turned out just fine. Just make sure that your friend will be willing to take it back to the shop for you it breaks.

General Discussion / Zaurus MIDI port?
« on: July 01, 2004, 01:14:35 pm »
MIDI is standard serial at 31250. The less sophisticated UARTs can't transmit at this frequency (which is why the Amiga MIDI interfaces plugged straight into the serial port, but the PC MIDI interfaces had to work through the GamePort - Amiga serial ports could input/output at any rate).

So there may be someway to use the IR as a serial transfer to some reciever with a MIDI plug on in. Or maybe something else. Is there a Compact Flash serial port available?

Fromwithin : I looked at the home page for eMule but it appeared to be a download/filesharing program not an eBook Reader.  Have I missed something?
No, you haven't missed anything. The point was that you can probably download the eBook that you bought in a different (ie more readable) format using something like eMule.

Just in case you are not aware: PDB files are not necessarily all the same format. If you look at the first part of the file, you should see something like "ToGoToGo" or "zTXT". These tell you the actually format of the PDB file. I think Opie-Reader can read them all apart from iSilo format. Here are some possible formats that may be name as a .pdb file:

BVokBDIC = BDicty
TEXtREAd = DOC
DB99DBOS = DB (Database program)
vIMGView = FireViewer/ImageViewer
PmDBPmDB = HanDBase
InfoINDB = InfoView
ToGoToGo = iSilo
JbDbJBas = JFile
JfDbJFil = JFile Pro (no longer used)
DATALSdb = LIST
Mdb1Mdb1 = MobileDB
PNRdPPrs = Peanut Reader
DataSprd = QuickSheet
TEXtTlDc = TealDoc
InfoTlIf = TealInfo
DataTlMl = TealMeal
DataTlPt = TealPaint
DataPlkr = Plucker
dataTDBP = ThinkDB
TdatTide = Tides
ToRaTRPW = TomeRaider

I personally store all of my eBooks as simple gzipped text files, or if converting from an HTML file with links, I use Plucker format (both readable by OpieReader).

Software / pdb format reader?
« on: June 30, 2004, 08:46:28 pm »
Or by the book, download eMule, search for the cracked version. Use that instead.

At this point, I should point out my textbath program. I wrote it to reformat text files for easy reading, putting the text into proper paragraphs and stuff. I find it incredibly useful.

You can get it here. I've got a zaurus version as well, if anybody wants it. I haven't put it at that URL though.

Software / Best Palm Emulator?
« on: June 26, 2004, 01:28:35 pm »
The Windows iSilo reader from the iSilo website lets you load in iSilo documents and save them out os text files. Seems to be a 30 day trial on it though.

You don't actually need to add new apps...I just open Tab Manager and then press okay.

However, I still carry my old Palm with me everywhere I go. It makes the perfect timepiece (with the ClockPop extension) as I can quickly whip it out of my pocket, flip open the cover, push one button and there's the time. Getting the Z out of my pocket to find out the time is a bit overkill for me.
I have to ask the question...haven't you ever considered just buying a watch?

5x00 General discussions / ir beam reciept

Don't know about the 5xxx series, but on my C750, it will place the file in a couple of directories of the mime type of the file. So an unknown text file would go into Documents/text/plain, for example.

General Discussion / Adapter
« on: June 25, 2004, 10:07:18 am »
I bought two of these AC adaptors, one for work and one for home. They work brilliantly, and use a USB plug for the power connection so that you can use the lead to charge from a USB socket (if the socket provides enough current).

They've gone up in price a bit since I got mine, but well worth it. Very compact and they also come with multiple plug socket connectors.
