Zaurus - pdaXrom / New Ko/pi Alarm Solution
« on: January 10, 2006, 05:32:06 pm »
It should work after that, 'cause the script is looking for ~/.kopi* files, which is not root dependent.
Aren't suspend/wakeup scripts always executed under root?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=110282\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
You are right, silly me.  I will modify the script to find out which user is running kopi at the moment and look into his homedir...
So the current script isn't so root independent after all.

To sds: Expect root-independent default install in... hmm... X months. Sorry, I don't know when, but it's on my list. I sent PM how you can help, if you want!

To desertrat: If you look at what "at" does, it's really just a simple ~20 line bash script. I just extented that and added some alarm specific stuff. At is just a nice sample file how atd works.

The whole pdaXrom is root centered at the moment, nothing is refined from this point of view (mainly file/directory ownerships), so I don't bother making a user-friendly solution for this reason.
It's not strictly root dependent, for example this can be easily solved by chowning the /var/spool/atd directory to root:somegroup, chmod it to 775 and adding the user to somegroup. It should work after that, 'cause the script is looking for ~/.kopi* files, which is not root dependent.

It's good to see that it's really working.
1.0->1.1 only difference is that I made it dependent on kdepim too. Now it pulls that from the feed if you just install kopi-apm. Just a bit of userfriendliness, and to avoid confusion, I made a new version from it.

PS Has anyone else noticed Kopi's propensity to put extra carats in the event dialogue?  I've just had three flashing merrily away at different phases in different fields!
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=110024\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
OK, now try to remove kopi-apm, atd and kdepim completely and install them from the places I altered in the first post! Thanks for the testing! It was good that this underscore error was found out...

is it kopi_apm or kopi-apm?

underscores in package name confuse ipkg.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=110007\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
It's "kopi-apm_1.0_armv5tel.ipk" here for me, but it's getting downloaded as "kopi_apm_1.0_armv5tel.ipk", so f*ck. This forum attachment system is a pain in the... neck.

EDIT: Okay, for now: please rename the package to kopi-apm, this way:
Code: [Select]
mv kopi_apm_1.0_armv5tel.ipk kopi-apm_1.0_armv5tel.ipkwhen you downloaded it.

Install at least kopi-apm and atd in the root folder; They eat about... 10k space on it. Tell it if it was wrong that way too. And the package manager output is strange, because I haven't made this kopi-apm dependent on kdepim (or kopi) so it shouldn't say something like that.

Just install this package and your Z will be resumed before and alarm event if it was suspended, so KO/Pi can use it's own built-in alarm.

Get it from the contrib feed along with a good version of kdepim:
kopi-apm_1.1 and kdepimpi_2.2.7 or add to the feed list in the Package manager!
  • You need atd for this package, but it's a dependency, so it should be installed along with this. atd is in the stable feed of 1.1.0beta1 release of pdaXrom.
  • You need a custom compiled kdepim to have alarm sounds (it doesn't play them in the feed version). Cattin compiled the one I'm using and it's also a dependency.
  • KO/Pi needs to be running if you want alarms
Mainly it's based on Cattin ideas, so thanks for them, minus the atd daemon, thanks Sashz for that.

Important note: atd is automatically started after a reboot, but to start it without reboot, please execute the following command:
Code: [Select]
etc/rc.d/init.d/atd startThanks gromituk, for pointing this out!

Happy alarming,

EDIT: the download path for the files has been changed, and there's a new, 1.1 version along with that. Sorry for the inconvenience about the mess with the filenames.

Hi Zumi,

I tryed your package , it works perfectly .

many thanks,

Thanks for the feedback! I guess this doesn't get enough publicity this way, hidden in the end of this topic.
I think I post a fresh topic about it there must be more people who need this. Five downloads since days? No way.

When you submit a bug report, you receive an email with a link. The email tells you that clicking the link will allow you to edit your bug report. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to edit a bug report. I would appreciate someone explaining this, even if it's embarrassingly obvious.

I rembered that something was wrong with it when I tried to use it and now I asked Laze and he said that it's broken. So the error is not in your device.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Mrxvt 0.4.2, Less 3.8.2 & Less 3.9.3 Beta
« on: January 05, 2006, 06:52:30 pm »
I just wanted to say that there's a less ipk (382) in the official feed.

This was my first rule file for the pdaxrom-builder and I'm happy about it, that's the only reason I post this.
Anyway, thank you for the others.

« on: January 05, 2006, 05:11:42 pm »

OK, so thanks for the work of cattin and sashz and others, I think I made a working solution with atd and the ~/.kopi_* files. It's a script for the /etc/apm/ directory. It runs on suspend and resume and makes files in the /var/spool/at directory, so it wakes up the Z before (-10 sec) an alarm event.
This means you still have to have KO/Pi running in the background but let's hope that atd makes everything nicer than apmsleep. You also need atd installed (it's available in the 1.1.0beta1 feeds) and I guess you need a kdepim that is compiled with the sampling rate option '-r ...' removed (for example the one cattin posted in the first post) to play sounds with KO/Pi.
I think that's all.

So, please try it out, give feedback!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Fvwm-pdaxrom 0.4.x

Keep up the good work! I like your fvwm configuration a lot. It allows me to configure and change the functionality very easily. As of this release it works a lot better on the SL-C3100. There are only two thinks that aren't properly working so far:

(1) the CPU  speed Menu. Your CPU speed logic doesn't seem to work on the C3k1 platform. I'll try to look into this next week.
Yeah, I thought that's different in Cxx00 versions, but I can't figure that out with a C860.
(2) from time to time strange things happen to the taskbar when turning on the Z. Sometimes I get an additional purple 'X' with the root menu, sometime I get an additional ztaskbar in a separate window.
Well, these things never happened here. Somebody is experiencing the same thing?
BTW: I love your dynamic menus! I haven't yet studied the mechanics behind it, but it seems the logical place for a CF/SD/wlan card unmounting menu.
I was playing with this mount menu idea when I had time and I made some draft. It's in Python, so it need to be rewritten in C to use it as a dynamic menu in a release (because it's quite slow this way), but I think it's good to study the mechanism behind them if you try to incude it in your config.

It looks like this (green is mounted, blue is busy (you cannot unmount it) and grey is unmounted; if you click on a green, it gets umounted, if on a blue, nothing happens, if on a grey, it gets mounted):

And here is the script. I'm gladly help if you are stuck how to use it, but I will include this in some form in the next release anyway.

(sorry about "zip", the forum is bitchy about file extensions and it only allowed this, no py, no bz2)

Zaurus - pdaXrom / FreenoteQT vs pdaXrom. Tough call?
« on: December 27, 2005, 05:17:26 am »
seems someone made a port:
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=108221\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
That's just: wow.
I try to get the source and needed patches and make an "official" ipk for the distribution so it can be included in the official feed, because this program rocks!
Thanks to the one who did the porting, good job!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Swap Partition Vs. Swap File
« on: December 21, 2005, 05:30:15 am »
I don't think that it matters whether you use a swap partition or file if you use it on a flash card (not microdrive), because fragmentation has no meaning on memory cards, so the only drawback, as Da_Blitz said, is the small overhead of the filesystem.
I think that is a good price for sizing your swapfile as you want.

A little more info about swap usage on Z here:

Well, I don't think so. If there's a restarting script (what I haven't noticed yet) it must be restarting the openbox or matchbox processes, so it doesn't do a thing in Fvwm.
