Software / What New Application Do You Want?

How about mindmap software?? Even the venerable DOS 5.0 HP200lx had a great program for this (MM/Lx)

"What you talking 'bout Willis?"   Seriously though, we only have the 'hosted by ibiblio' footers on the ELSI which is still hosted by ibiblio.  It was just the OESF wiki and forums that moved off (which I think I've removed the ibiblio stuff already...).

My mistake, thought the whole site had moved, I was referring to the ELSI pages..

Software / Any Keyhelper Wizards Out There?
« on: January 27, 2005, 06:35:49 pm »
I put together a keyhelper.xml file to do the sticky shift and the two extensions in your tutorial. On giving it a try I found that the sticky shift didn't work but the [shift] + [home] and [shift] + [menu] did.   I have aC3000, I wonder if I should put the xml file in a different place than /home/zaurus/settings..

Also, after futzing around for a bit I decided to pursue later and I actually deleted the keyhelper.xml file  Even though I've rebooted several times I was surprised to find the 2 extensions continued to work just fine w/o the file..... Is that normal (and the program stores this somewhere so you only need the xml file once), or does the C3000 come with this 'built-in'??

Yeah, I can see the intelligent capitalization being very handy.
I don't know directly if the author reads English, but my experience is that almost all Japanese software developers have a very strong grasp of written English (This is also true of most university aged Japanese as well). If you keep your sentences short (avoid lots of pasive voice and multiple clauses in a single sentence) and give obvious examples (as you have already done in this post) I can't imagine you having any problems communicating via email

P.S. Glad you found the intro to keyhelper usefull, I suppose I should get my act together and finish the rest of the features of keyhelper.

Not a big deal, but if you've moved to dreamhost you might want to update the footers to reflect that.. no use giving ibiblio any credit if they didn't work out for you.

I will continue to look for leaner skins (not forum software) for people to choose from.

Would any of you guys be interested in something along this line? We are speaking with them directly about this for zaurus accessories and they say they will have linux drivers available first quarter of next year. My question is do many of you have a need for something along these lines for us to pursue
I e-mailed them 3 weeks ago asking about the Linux drivers, have never heard back..

Cxx0 Hardware / Aircable Problem
« on: November 25, 2004, 08:41:53 pm »
Trying to use an Aircable to get a bluetooth connection to a Motorola A630. I followed all the directions in the various threads on this site and at Shirtpocket, etc. In the Network applet i set up an IRDAxxxxxx file, went in and modified (added /dev/ttyS0 at the top, etc.), etc.

OK, so I first get a successful pairing. Then as soon as I hit Connect, the system says Initializing and at this point the AirCable light (which had been solid blue i.e. paired) immediately turns off. As soon as I abort (or wait until the attempt fails) the light comes back on and the Aircable appears to be back "on." Any ideas on what I should do?

Miami Bob,
If you can't get the CPACK running, are you able to run programs such as PE, MM/LX, VR, etc using palrun?

Software / Memory problems
« on: November 05, 2004, 02:06:35 pm »
Whenever I run KO/Pi (1.9.9) every so often I get a dialog box stating that I am running out of memory and which application do I want to close. Since I'm only running KO/Pi I usually "X" out of that message. Then I can keep going until the message pops up again. Sometimes though I don't have a choice and the app gets shut down automatically. This only happens with this app, even when it is the only app I have running. The rest of the time I don't get memory problems, even when I have multiple apps open (e.g. Calculator + IQNotes + Hancom Sheet, etc.)
Any ideas? Anything I can do to figure out what's up? Pls include the commands since I'm not that great with linux commands, etc.

A good suggestion, SNi, but no joy. Turns out that the cg.com TSR handles the special CGA screen calls in place of the real 200LX hardware. The reason that some systems, like the Nokia, need it removed is that they already have the 200LX calls in native OS. Not so Bochs or the Z.

By putting "pause"s everywhere in APP200.BAT, I was able to narrow the problem a bit. UN200 executes OK. SO do cg.com & tkernel. When LAUNCHER.COM tries to run, it freezes the DOS session.

Without cg or tkernel, launcher abends with a very fast "TSR not loaded" warning and a clear screen.

In theory, from what I've read today, ANY System manager compliant DOS app could be run in place of launcher in the BAT file. Or even just by loading cg & tkernel first.

So I'll keep researching Bochs & CPACK to see if any answers popup. Let us know if you think of anything else to try!

THANKS!
OK, another idea.... Do you have a _DAT directory created - since that's where the system puts the dosmgr.env and dosmgr.dat files?

This may have zero relevance, or... When attempting to run CPACK under a DOS Emulator (albeit on a Nokia Communicator) had to delete the line cg.com from the app200.bat file for it to work. FWIW.

Just a quick report.

I loaded the CPACK Connectivity Package from HP on a hard disk image & launched App100.

The TSR starts to load & then hangs. Have let it stand for hours without forward progress so is not just Bochs being slow. Actually, Bochs is pleanty zippy with the simple old DOS programs for PC/XT systems so far.
