Every clamshell model has a flipscreen.

I have a 5500, a 760 and a 3000.  The 5500 is a fine device unless you have access to one of the clamshell models.

The speed, storage, and display resolution are huge upgrades from the 5500.  With my 3000, I haven't even come close to running low on storage or running out of room to install packages for normal use.

There's just no comparison between the 5500 and the clamshell models.  The clamshells are worth every penny more, IMO.

I'm running the beta on my 3k and my Ambicom WL1100C has always "just worked".  The only unusual requirement was to input the ESS-ID correctly in the network setup.

For me, pdaXrom turns my Zs into cool toys.

Would be nice to know what you mean :-)
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=83712\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I use my Zs at work and at home.  Work is where I get the most use, carrying every document I need, lists of equipment and settings, etc.  Qtopia allows me to rapidly find an open a document with one hand rather than forcing me to use a stylus.  I can remotely connect to several of my servers/routers using SSH/VNC/qtrdesktop, etc.  PdaXrom has all the same tools, it's just less convenient for me.

PdaXrom is more fun, looks cool and always draws a crowd when I'm showing it off, but I get more use out of Qtopia.  If I could run a full Qtopia on top of pdaXrom, I would do it in a heartbeat regardless of its speed.

How you use your Z and your personal preferences will make all the difference.  That's why so many people are telling you to see for yourself.

Would people say that they prefer having a more linux mini laptop experience with their Z than little cool toy experience?

Depends entirely on the way you use your Z.  For me, pdaXrom turns my Zs into cool toys.  When I want to really use any of them, I reflash to a Qtopia-based ROM (Cacko when I can get it).  It gives me quick, easy access to all my network tools and saved documents.  Your mileage may vary.

I'd test it, too.

Simplifying installation of multiple packages is always a Good Thing, IMO.

one big package that installs the complete X/Qt and a prebuild and ready to run Debian image that just needs to be mounted.

Wow.  Those would be excellent!

Wow!  Looks like they have ARM/PocketPC binaries, too.

I need this on my 3000!

but slots are better than gadgets.... more customizable, and cheaper

Absolutely correct.  When I'm looking at a new gadget, I look for "slots" first.  No "slots", no more attention from me, ever, because that gadget can never be expanded to be more than it currently is.

I think that's probably how the majority of gadget users think.

With Tetsu's 18a kernel these values work for me (no long duration tests, though) with no lockups:

Quote
0,Turbo,1e2,0
0,Overclocked,162,0
0,Default (PXA255),161,0
0,Normal,242,0
0,Default (PXA250),241,0
0,Power Saving,121,0
1,Turbo (624/208/104 MHz),2000310,e
1,Overclocked (520/260/130 MHz),a000214,c
1,Standard (416/208/104 MHz),2000210,a
1,Power Saving (208/104/104 MHz),0000110,9

I'm most comfortable with the display at 104MHz because a ) no lockups, so far, and b ) I didn't bother trying to determine whether the lockups were the whole system or just the display.

Btw, my zaurus hangs anytime when I try to get directly from the standard clocks to any 600+ Mhz overclocking without making a step @520Mhz ...

But I didn't think to try that.

I had issues with lockups during over/underclocking via the battery applet.  Here are the freqchange.conf values that seem to work correctly for me:

Quote
0,Turbo,1e2,0
0,Overclocked,162,0
0,Default (PXA255),161,0
0,Normal,242,0
0,Default (PXA250),241,0
0,Power Saving,121,0
1,Turbo (624/208/104 MHz),2000310,e
1,Overclocked (520/260/130 MHz),a000214,c
1,Standard (416/208/104 MHz),2000210,a
1,Power Saving (208/104/104 MHz),0000110,9

I'd be interested in seeing someone else's results.  Note that the 520MHz line is the one with nonstandard display frequency that produces screen flickering.

Flashed it.  Super busy at work, I'll post any observations I make as I'm able.

I'll gladly test it to death for you

So will I.  Add the new tetsu kernel and we can call it C3KB1A1(CEFRnR)

These things are fantastic and you can practically carry them in a spare pocket with your Z.

Exactly!  That's why I'm going to reduce the length of the mini-A cable I made.  I'll be able to get everything (mouse, power cable, LAN and wifi cards, and JumpDrive that takes SD cards, and maybe a super slim USB hub) in one very small camera bag.
