6000 - Tosa / How do I mount an ext Cdrom?
« on: October 26, 2004, 03:51:01 pm »
Item1

I just bought a used external usb cdrom.  I use an external usb hard drive nightly and it was no problem mounting it using /dev/sda1.  However I cannot figure out what /dev/ the cdrom is in order to mount it.   I figured that it would simply be /dev/sda2 but that does not work at all.  Anybody know?  Surely someone has done this....

Item 2

I have successfully installed a usb external keyboard that is now about 90 percent mapped correctly, but I would REALLY like to be able to use an external mouse.  I had tried the mouse thing on my old 5500 using it as a com device but I never got that going.  However while browsing through the /dev/ folder on my 6000 I noticed that it listed a usbmouse as a device!  I immediately plugged in a usb mouse hoping that it would be as easy as the keyboard (which was darn near plugnplay).  NOPE...not a thing. Is it possible to use an external usb mouse and if so how would you accomplish this?

I belabored whether to put this in General or Software, and decided since I was not having hardware problems and because it was my software that needed modified in order to work I should put it here after all.  MODERATOR- Please if you feel this would be more appropriate elsewhere please forgive the goof and feel free to move it!

Thanks all,

Deals and Great Z Buys / Trendnet TE-CF100 ethernet
« on: October 17, 2004, 12:14:13 am »
I know 10/100 ethernet cards are much less popular than wireless but this is simply a good deal!  I already owned one of these cards and its run with every ROM I've tried flawlessly and I've been very pleased with its performance (100megabit will spoil you) and the fact that it has 6 led's so you know EXACTLY how your hooked up etc.  They are super nice for traveling and doing the internet thing in Hotels etc.  Looks pretty snazzy to boot.
I found this one at www.mobileplanet.com and immediate ordered a second one for my wife.  To my great surprise at checkout time I discovered that ups ground shipping was FREE!

Note: I am in NO WAY a representative of mobileplanet.  I've never even been a customer of theirs before this!

Hope this helps someone!

Software / How is software compatibility with Hybrid 1.6.x?
« on: October 05, 2004, 04:25:16 am »
I'm groping around for another Rom and don't think I'm up for OZ 3.5 yet.  Still too many rough edges for me to knock off.  I'm thinking very hard about  going with the Hybrid rom with Qtopia 1.6

I'm worried about program compatibility however!  I own almost 20 kompany titles, and the ability to run prboom and qoverclock is a must.  I also have a lot of paid for software such ast rocketelite, candycrusher, etc.

Will these programs even begin to install correctly and run on Qtopia 1.6?  Anyone who has run Hybrid please take time to drop me some hints and tips.

My thanks for your time in advance!

Oops forgot some things:
Our family has four Z's all of 'em are sl-5500's
In addition to the above Synch-ing is completely mandatory.  Preferably with MS Outlook. (yah I know that sux but you can lead your wife to Linux but you can't make her drink!)
