Accessories / Help Me Choosing A Memory Card
« on: May 16, 2005, 03:56:25 am »
i have my z fir les than 4 month and it is my first pda so i am new to all king of memory as cf and sd card
first the the slot cf vs sd but i allready in this that in spped comparaison they  r not really defferent but that cf seem to be a litle bit cheaper ,but i also read that sd card life time is count in write operation is also true for the cf card wich last more time
but the real problem is that for the the same size there so much diference in the price of  sd card (depending of the brand ) and some said that the zaurus is not  able to use the card at full speed ( and as i dont plant to use it with any other divice) should i go for the go for cheaper is  there any brand or sd card model that is the best to buy
is a good idea to use an usb key and mass storage for the zaurus

C1000/3x00 General discussions / A Few Questions About The C*000..
« on: April 27, 2005, 12:38:57 am »
I am going to buy a Sharp Zaurus C1000, and before I get it I have a few questions about it.

Will it be able to do the following?
1) Play DivX (or comparable MPEG4) at 640x480.
2) Use USB host to access a laptop hard drive in an external enclosure, and play a movie off of it.
3) Power a laptop hard drive (no? I did not think so, is there any battery pack for powering USB stuff?)
4) Compile and run basic console C programs (With GCC, or GCC based compiler?).
5) Cook my breakfast.
6) Edit text documents using a USB keyboard (possibly with port replicator)
7) Go on wireless internet (802.11b, whats a good CF wireless card?)

I realize I will have to wait for third party ROMs for some of this functionality.

Also, is there any store that imports the C1000 that does not require PayPal some third party?
(The only one that I have found is

Sorry in advance if this is in the wrong forum, a stupid post or I should of more extensively used the search feature, if so just flame me and/or lock it.

1) Not at 640x480. I make my movies at 320x240 29fps, the best I've heard of is ~570x300 or so.
2) Yes. I've got a battery powered external 40gb HD that works beautifully. I've also got a USB CD-RW, from which I've both read and written cds.
3) Sorry, but no. Most anything more power-hungry than a CF type2 Microdrive is going to need external power.
4) Sure. There are even dev tools for doing GUI programming available. You've also got your choice of various Java's and scripting languages as well. (Including LAMP - Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP)
5) Depends on how raw you take your eggs.
6) Yes. I've got a USB Mouse, Keyboard, and various external USB drives all hooked up through a hub.
7) Lots of different wireless cards work. I use a linksys WCF-12

Here's a pic of my C3000 with all the trimmings (hosted by fastscirocco):

6000 - Tosa / A Functioning Emulator
« on: April 21, 2005, 11:23:27 am »
I'm using VisualBoyAdvance w/ the fast kernel and libsdl from It plays regular GB games at nearly full speed (I pretty much only play RPGs, so a little slowdown doesn't bug me) I don't recall having needed to do anything special to get it running or anything.

I also have snes9x running no problem. Amazingly enough, it's even faster then VisualBoyAdvance. I followed the instructions on, (I think the special libsdl is the thing that really makes it work well) and it just works. Works well too, I might add.
