6000 - Tosa / Sl6000 Hardware Accelerated Display?
« on: April 16, 2005, 03:01:51 pm »
any new about the TC6393XB video chip ? do someone work on a hardware accelarated display ?
do someone know about video performace of the sl6000l compare to the c1000 or c3000 (TC6393XB video chip vs W100)

Depends how good your reactions are you touch the screen when you feel your pulse.  You have to be carfull how you do it though as moving your hand interupts feeling the pulse

read about this program , they said be able to measure ur heart beat rate  without any additional hardware( directly from the screen ???)
is that possible .... i am not an electronic guru but i dont thnk so

General Discussion / More Choice In Linux Based Pdas And Smartphones
« on: April 15, 2005, 01:31:09 am »
more choice in linux handled held could definitively be a great thing. i think sharp need more competitors in linux handled held unit. But more importante than new hardware, is as allready said in the forum a BETTER software support and more open specification .

I think manufacturer have to know that release information on they device could made them more attactive and evolutive .i dont like the term linux pda cuz i think for only pim use , i better to stay with palmos or such of wich are design for only that purpose, can effort less porwerfull harware and be much less expensive  .i think linux is not going to replace palmos or wondowspocket edition for a while .people generaly dont need the more functionnality that linux offer and when it come wich more complexity... by comlexity i mean change peolpe dont want to change the way they act to thier pda or smart phone   , i prefere to see linux handled held only like  laptop replacement unit_ or people for power user  who dont like to carry a laptop. basicly poeple wich use laptop also use a pim device  and i think all of these can be esealy integrate in one for basic use of laptop (office,mp3,readind paper) (zaurs can almost do all of this), linux make it possible because it handle held version is not a shortcut of the pc version but full version (and optimised?)
in software support i would like to see manufacturer to realese more tool , optimised libraires and program and support the 3rd party i dont understant why sharp lost time in develloping very poor pim aplication when they could simply take part in developing process of existing aplication (kde/pim).yea i know that company dont really like open source thing but... i think more people will be interested if they see a sharp is take in opensource developement and this could lead to better aplication, less develloping time and a richard stallman more happy ... i think code optimisation  is very inportante in this kind of device ... with a well optimized program i think 400mhz of the zaurus are more than enought for the the next tree year (maybe more ram ?)

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Super Newbies Question
« on: April 14, 2005, 11:14:42 pm »
i got many question about oz but  i am no  able to find answer nor on the seed web nor on this forum here the first ones
-can qtopia be use istead of opie or gpe, or at least can the default pim application be use with oz

-is the pim aplication of opie or gpe good enought

-i read about sd card probleme , will i be able to use my sd card on the sl6000l

-about the kernel 2.6, will it improven video performence of the sl6000l,is the oz kernel capable of overcloking/downcloking like guylem one, is there some benchmark ? betwen guylem kernel and the oz 2.6 wich offer the best performance

--will we have to recompile aplication in orer to take advantage on the kernel inprovement

--does oz include the libsdl of guylem, can we add it latter....

-many other incomming

i tried many emulator on my sl6000l but none of them work fine ,sometime obscur  libriare are missing and other time tyhe program is bizare
i tried gnuboy, qgnuboy , snes9x mame and visualboyadvanc
did some succefully run one off them , wich method so u use ???

General Discussion / Zaurus Performance

ok after do some serch about floating unit and floatind computing on arm i find this http://www.dec.usc.es/arith16/papers/paper-131.pdf , but not able to see the date of this document
their said that they have an implementation of floationg that can be 10 time faster than the gcc one ? is it still true ? does the floating processor of the kernel (default one wich sharp rom ) use those technique ?

is t he px270 significantly better than the pax255(in rem of perfomance and in term of overcloking) ,and for video compraison are the video ship of the c1000 much better than the sl6000 one ?

you can also use mathematica for linux using qemu-i386 emulation. that works great but a bit slow.

tovarish
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=74205\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
under the zaurus ???
did some know how is the maxima  calculus system compare to other system as matematica/ti-89/classpad300 ... better ,worse or equal
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=74456\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

yes, i use qemu-i386 to execute the linux mathematica binary. integrals, differnetial equations are definitely much better in mathematica than maxima but mathematica is slow. ti89 is worse than mxima
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=74670\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
did u try it under an inproved kernel  ??

0-c1000 and c3000 vs sl6000 wich are the better video performace ??
1-do u think that the next gen of zaurus will be more powerfull
2-as i ask will emulation performance increase if software are more optimised for zaurus architecture
3-in case of using the application specialy design and optimised(very very well optimised and design  for zaurus how far could the emulator go psone,nintendo64,nintendo ???

0 -> With the present drivers, all more or less the same.

1 -> Of course. Newer hardware is always more powerful than older hardware.

2 -> Definitly. Compare Linux 2.4 to Linux 2.6, compare soft-float code to hard-float code and compare gcc 2.95 to gcc 3.x code - makes a whole lot of a difference. Add fb hardware accelleration and it would be even better.

3 -> Not very far. Emulation is a non-trivial task, emulating sophisticated DSPs even more so. It takes GigaHertz PCs to do convincing game station emulation.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=74582\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

0 -> ok but ,what for new driver ???

1 -> i mean compare to what order will , will sharp take 624 mhz processor when other will be at 800 mhz may be 1ghz

2-> according to what u saod it is more a matter of time and support than a harware issue... right ?
3-dsp ??i heard that the gp32 have GBA emulator can we hope a such emulator on zaurii ??

can the overcloking with the new kernel make differrence ?? what the fastest reachable speed of zaurus cpu ? can this damage the zaurus ??

there is no floating point ability in the Zaurus cpu... that's where the major slowdown comes from... Hardware multipliers take a lot of power...

yea like in all arm based pda and i think that why hardware designer add video  ship ??

General Discussion / Zaurus Performance
« on: April 11, 2005, 06:58:19 am »
ok we all agree that zaurii are great machine   cuz runnig linux  (great os) but appart that , the zaurus hardware are low compare to some pda like x50v or look 720. i mean yeah the screen are great , yea the os is also wonderful(and the fact greatness (i am not sur of the word) of the os is made by sharp but by the linux/zaurii comunauti), but i think sharp improve the harware specification of the new zaurus (c3000,c1000 and sl6000) why stay at 400 when other where already at 624 or 520 ...or maybe more rom
and why zaurus are so expensive machine ?? for that hardware is begin to think that sharp use the fact that zaurus are the only suatable zaurus machine for giving high cost

i recently got a sl6000l and i enjoy use it for all king of purpose but when the time off playing game (or video) begin, i begin to think that a x50v could be better for me not because i dont find game for playing but because all interresting emulator are slow... i dont understand why
i go into deception when i see that my 400-intel_processor-of-2002 can run propely an emulator of the snes... i know that zaurus are not design for gaming purpose but ... the snes !!! video performance of zaurus is that worse ?? or it is only a problem of software-architure dependend optimisation

pour finir
i got some question

0-c1000 and c3000 vs sl6000 wich are the better video performace ??
