Zaurus - pdaXrom / Datentime Enhancement
« on: March 12, 2007, 08:37:57 am »
I have enhanced the datentime python script which is used to set the date and time to also allow you to set the timezone. I have added an additional third tab which has just a simple dropdown list of 24 timezones, one city for each of the major time lines off GMT. This makes it simple if your city is part of the pick list to set your timezone. If it isn't, you need to set it manually by symlinking your timezone from /usr/share/zoneinfo to /etc/localtime.
Of course you need to actually install the timezones package first in order to be able to select a timezone.
I also have updated the timezones package (timezones_2007_all.ipk) to include the latest daylight savings data.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Zbackup For Pdaxii13
« on: March 06, 2007, 11:26:24 am »
i have updated zbackup so it can support akita devices as well.

can someone with akita test and see if it works?

please make sure you make a nand backup before ypu try it.

install zbackup, then from outside of X, just run zbackup

it should create a initrd.bin on /mnt/card

now in theory, you could use this initrd.bin file to reflash your Zaurus...

on the c3100/3200 it should generate two files, initrd.bin just like for c1000, but also a pdaXrom-C3k....tgz file on /data
rename this file to hdimage-custom.tgz and you should be able to restore your system just like you the way you initially flashed it but using these backup files instead....

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Upgrading Beta1/beta3 To Pdaxii13
« on: February 24, 2007, 01:45:43 am »
since pdaXii13 is based on beta1/beta3 and build directly on a Zaurus installed with pdaXrom beta1/beta3, it is possible to upgrade those system to pdaXii13 base without reflashing them.

in order to upgrade to pdaXii13 you will need to be running either beta1 or beta3 already and have about 10MB of free space left on your NAND (the exact space needed is not known and may be less).

make sure you do a NAND backup before attempting this. this is a generic upgrade method and may not work as expected on some systems with fancy setups. make sure you have a backup before upgrading to pdaXii13...

What you need to do is download and extract http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/feed/pdaXii13...ii13-custom.tgz to your Z somewhere (preferably CF card rather than SD card)
Shut down X and any unneeded services including SD service
Then from the extracted directory run

Code: [Select]
./install-fix-beta3 / upgrade
reboot and your system is patched to the same level as pdaXii13 base.

running version will tell you which edition and version of pdaXii13 you have.

The full pdaXii13 is available for the C3000 model as a complete install since  there is no beta1/beta3 for it in the first place, however, you can use this method to upgrade an older pdaXii13 to the latest patch level as well...

C1000, C3100, C3200 can be upgraded this way without requiring you to reflash, but of course you can use the pdaXii13 Akita installer to flash if you want to.

The installer (both for Alice and Sally) have an upgrade option which basically does the extraction the update file for you and also installs the files.

C7x0, C8x0 can use this method to update their setup.

pdaXii13 base edition is a collection of bug fixes and patches rolled together to fix quite a lot of bugs in pdaXrom beta1/beta3. pdaXii13 full adds a lot of pre-installed and customised applicatons which requires a lot of space and only available to C3x00 models...

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pdaxii13 On Nand
« on: January 12, 2007, 12:00:55 am »
I have created an experimental version of pdaXii13 which lives on the NAND instead of the MicroDrive so it can be flashed for C1000, C3100 and C3200.
In essence, I extracted the akita initrd.bin from pdaXrom beta3 and added my patches and scripts and recreated the initrd.bin.
This basically means, it is pdaXrom beta3 bug fixed with the same fixes as pdaXii13 on the C3000 so it is equivalent to pdaXii13 base.

To differentiate between the two versions, I will call the orginal pdaXii13 for the C3000 which installs to the MicroDrive pdaXii13 Spitz
This new version for the C1000 which installs to the NAND will be called pdaXii13 Akita

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Dir_colors
« on: December 10, 2006, 09:06:16 pm »
I want to change the colour of the directories when displayed by ls in a bash script. I tried generating the values for LS_COLORS and exported the env but it doesn't have any effect. Also, there is no DIR_COLORS file under /etc
I compiled dircolors so I got the right colour string, but it doesn't appear to be working. What else do I need?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Matchbox-panel
« on: December 10, 2006, 09:48:06 am »
well, I really hated it when the matchbox-panel lost the applets when you resized the screen so I hacked it not to do that anymore. This should work on all clamshell models with 640x480 screens running beta1/beta3

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Utf8 Support In Gtk2
« on: December 06, 2006, 08:24:56 pm »
Previously on beta1, I had scim installed and configured and was able to enter Japanese in Abiword. Now with beta3, scim still works because I can enter Japanese in mrxvt, but I am unable to enter Japanese in Abiword and I also leafpad which is another GTK2 application. So it seems the GTK2 libraries in beta3 don't support UTF8?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Usbkbd.o
« on: December 06, 2006, 07:32:51 pm »
Is anyone able to recompile that module for the 2.4.20 kernel? The one that comes with beta3 has the same bug as the one that comes with Cacko/Sharp ROM. There are several dead keys, ie the , . ' keys don't work or are conflicting with F keys.
There was a patch for usbkbd.o for Sharp ROM which fixes this problem. Is anybody able to track down that patch and recompile that module with it? sorry, I got the patched binary and it works fine on Sharp ROM, but don't know where I stashed the patch source code
