Zaurus - pdaXrom / D-link Dcf-660w Pdaxrom Not Working
« on: July 26, 2006, 02:25:24 pm »
I've also got this card and it works fine on my C3000 with 1.1.0beta1. I simply made the necessary settings in the "Lan & Wifi" tool and the card was detected automatically and works perfectly since then.

Make sure you have a section like this in /etc/pcmcia/hostap_cs.conf:

Code: [Select]
card "D-Link DCF-660""
 version "D-Link", "DCF-660W"
 manfid 0xd601, 0x0005
 bind "hostap_cs"

In my hostap_cs.conf file there was another card defined for this manfid (0xd601, 0x0005).

Could you check what you have set via the "Lan & Wifi" manager?

Beware, though: After I closed the "Lan & Wifi" tool my Zaurus did hang and I had to reset it. After that everything was fine.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Complete Backup Of A Pdaxrom C3000 System?
« on: July 25, 2006, 04:17:43 am »
Lately I've installed pdaXrom 1.1.0beta1 on my C3000. What a fantastic ROM! The feature set is overwhelming. It turns your Zaurus into a real Linux-box as if you were sitting in front of your desktop PC. I even managed to compile my first apps after I've mounted the "zgcc-3.4.5.img" development image. A big kudos to the developers and maintainers!

In the meantime I've installed a number of packages and have done a lot of tweaks and settings changes. Although I'm very impressed by pdaXrom I also would like to try out other ROM's since I'm curious what they have to offer. However, in case I want to return to pdaXrom (which is more than likely) I don't want to lose all my personal customizations and don't want to re-do all the tweaks and changes in settings.

Therefore my question: What is the right procedure to make a complete backup of a padXrom system incl. all packages and personal settings? As far as I've learned this would include following steps:

1. Backing up the NAND of my C3000 to CF card, and

2. Backing up the whole /dev/hda1 partition of the microdrive (which I would do via network).

Could somebody confirm these two steps?

What I'm not sure about at the moment is the right procedure to restore these when I switch back from another ROM like OZ or Cacko. Could somebody explain?

TIA!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pdaxrom For C3000 Beta2

Okay, so I have now flashed the pdaXrom onto my C3000 too.

The look and feel of pdaXrom is better for me than QTopia from Cacko ROM.

So far I have not installed any additional software packages, just the plain pdaXrom installation.

Some first questions:

* Suspend does not work when lid is closed. Is this intentional? If not, what can be wrong?

* Some applications come up with a window larger than the screen. A "maximise" fits them to screen. But on next startup they are too large again (e.g. Sylpheed, gqview...). Any way around that?

* Running applicatoins used to be shown in the taskbar on QTopia. On pdaXrom they are not. I find it nice to have running applicatoins available on one klick. Is there a way to configure this?

* I tried if there is a task switcher like in Cacko. Pressing Shift-home. But then the screen went blank, USB port LED switched off (meaning power off?) and the HDD LED stays lit. Suspend? With On/Off button it does not come to life again.
But when pressing the "Menu" key the HDD LED flickers again and hub power comes up. but screen is black stil... what happens there?
Now I have to do a hard reset I guess...

* Are there any "users" predefined (such as "zaurus" on Cacko ROM)? Should one work as a user or do most people here work as root? I's prefer working as a user, but would I have to switch to root (meaning terminating X, logging out, logging back in and restarting X) when I want to modify a setting or do anything else which cannot easily be done via sudo on the console?

* In USB settings one can choose between CF and SD for USB-storage.
How can I access the internal MD via USB-storage from outside (provided I have an OS running which supports ext2)?

* Which feed(s) are recommended for the first steps after installing pdaXrom on C3000? I'm mainly looking for productivity tools as always :-)

So much for now. Looking forward to your replies.

Thank you!

Software / Free Sudoku - Now All Zaurus And Archos Supported
« on: July 21, 2006, 10:48:23 am »
Is it possible to get zudoku running on pdaxrom?

I played it quite often on my C3000 with original Sharp ROM, however, I recently switched to pdaxrom and obviously some libraries are missing. Is it just a matter of installing a number of Qtopia related libraries? If yes, which ones? Or should I forget to run zudoku on pdaxrom?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / [solved] What Happened To The Standard Feeds?
« on: July 20, 2006, 02:24:46 pm »
Since yesterday evening I cannot access these standard pdaxrom feeds:

http://mail.pdaxrom.org/downloads/1.1.0bet...s-7x0-860/feed/

http://mail.pdaxrom.org/downloads/1.1.0bet...000-C3100/feed/

ipkg claims that the 'Packages' files cannot be retrieved, and trying to open the URL's with a browser gives a "Page not found" error.

Anyone knows what's up?

TIA.

Software / New Version Of Zknights Chess Board
« on: November 28, 2005, 04:24:13 pm »
Small update:

Udo was so kind as to make a fix regarding the time options!

zknights now properly passes either "Number of moves per time frame" (eg. 40 moves within 120 min.) or "Average time per single move" (eg. 45 seconds per move) to the Phalanx chess engine. For both alternatives to work the "Easy Level" option which is still supported must be set to 'Strong'. If the slider is set to a lower level, then the Phalanx engine falls back to its standard behaviour of 10 seconds per move but drops in an intentional blunder move once in a while.

You can grab the new zknights version 0.6.1.2 as usual from Udo's Zaurus pages:

Thanx Udo!

@bluedevils
@gdog

Thanx for the quick replies! So, uninstall then re-install is the right order for upgrading a package? Would this be a general guideline for Zaurus software?

I'll try the latest version soon - and yes, I won't forget to do a backup of my data files first as this should be done on a regular basis anyway...

Sorry in advance for my newbie question...

I bought my CL3000 from Trisoft and it got Version 2.0.14 pre-installed. What would be the correct procedure for updating to the latest version? Would I just need to install the new *.ipk via the package manager ("Add/Remove software") and it'll replace all the old files with the the ones? Do I need to make a backup of my data files first?

Anything else I must observe? Additional dependicies?

Sorry, but I'm relatively new to the Zaurus world and how software is installed (and especially updated!) here...

Yes, would be a nice nice-to-have feature.

However, I'm currently struggling with another problem: I don't seem to be able to pass time settings to the phalanx engine, e.g.: Although I've set "40 moves per 120 minutes"  when starting a new match in zknights it wouldn't get passed to phalanx (as one can check by issuing a "ps ax --cols 1000" from a terminal console). znkights only adds the "-e" option to the list of arguments defined in Phalanx/engine.conf;  however, the "-e" option (Easy level) is only meant to simulate human blunders but doesn't really define the playing strength. The default level in phalanx is - I think - 10 seconds per move which may be to easy for advanced players.

I can work around this problem by editing engine.conf and manually adding " 40 120" at the end of the Arguments line (and maybe additionally "-p+" to enable pondering) before starting a new match but I would like zknights to pass this option automatically when it starts the phalanx engine.

Is there anything I'm missing?
