What a great post--detailed, and its step-by-step process was incredibly helpful.

I'd had trouble playing movies on Kino2, but your specs paved the way, and many thanks.

Using your guideline, I was able to make a 640x480 movie, but as you point out, over-clocking seems necessary for smooth play.  In full screen, there was some blockiness.  I noticed that even  at full screen, I'm getting a black band over top and bottom.  Is that what you get, or am I using a DVD with full-screen-only capability (as opposed to wide screen)?  Is your Z screen literally full?

Many thanks for an intriguing application.  I'm having a hard time getting it started.  Using a C1000 and Trisoft ROM, per your website instructions, I've installed 1.8.1 and the libcurl-light_7, libidn_1 and libz_1 ipks.  However, in Terminal, using the command "zocalo," I get an error: "could not open translation file /home/QtPalmtop/il8n/en/libsl.qmid OGArray::at: Absolute index 0 out of range

If libsl.qmid is an actual file, I do not find it in /home/QtPalmtop/il8n/en

Any advice?

edit: I found a libsl.qmid at http://dragos.com/zaurus/ but I still get the error "OGArray::at: Absolute index 0 out of range"

Software / Dvd Catalyst 3 For Sl-****

Just got a SL-C1000, but I've used CE devices for a long time, and DVD Catalyst 3 has always made playable movies for those slow processors.  So I played around with DVD Cat 3 and the mplayer/Zplayer and found that the combination makes for sharp, audio-synched full-length movies.  My specs are:

320x240 resolution
Video quality: 500kbs
Sound quality: 128kbs
Conversion format: mpeg2-mp2
Volume: 10
Frame Rate: 30

These specs are too rich for the Sharp player, so for that player, I had to dumb down the frame rate to 20 and the sound to 64.  Nor could I get Kino2 to play the files with any specs.  But Zplayer works great.

DVD Catalyst 3 is a one-man show and I see that Mitch is having a half-price sale.  9.95USD for the full program.  He does email support and it's been very fast and helpful in my experience with the HP Jornada 720 and my Zune and various Nokias.

At any rate, I've joined the Z party too late, I think, but my long plane rides will be a little more convienent.
