Help! C860 With Cacko 1.22 Won't Start Anymore
« on: March 19, 2005, 01:04:24 am »
My c869 works wonderful until I purchased the tkc mail software.  After the installation, I did a reboot.  Now my c860 is cycling between the bright screen of “ please wait … starting Liunx and Qtopia” and the dark screen of “ init: entering runlevel: 5”.  The only thing I can do is to remove the battery, but this will happen again when it is trying to start.  How can I force the machine to get out of that cycling?  Any body know if tkcmail works under Cacko1.22?

Please help!!!!!!

Thanks,

Leo

I can't remember where I heard it but I think that one of the messages said something about some tkc software breaking compatibility with the Cacko ROM.

I would suggest booting to the command line ... hit / during the 5 second countdown, select the option for console only and then

ipkg remove <package>

To get rid of the tkcmail program.
OpenBSD 4.2 -current on full 4Gb of SL-C3000
Microdrive replaced with 4Gb SanDisk Extreme III card

Thanks, Iamasmith.  I removed the tkcmail based on your suggestion (the machine said it’s done).  But the C860 is still cycling.  This drives me crazy.  Any further suggestions?

Thanks again.

Leo

Without having a fairly detailed view of what configuration you have no.

If you could stand to go back to defaults and reconfigure then you can rset the Cacko ROM back to defaults using the following technique.

Remove battery.
Wait a minute or so.
Reinsert battery.
Hold down the OK button and power on whilst holding down.

This pops into a japanese menu.

Select option 3 and anser OK or Y, whichever is selected (you may need mains power to allow it to do this).

This will erase the user partition leaving the system partition intact and as such resets the ROM to its original state.

Hi iamasmith:

Thanks for the suggestion.

I am not very good at Linux system.  It took me many days and nights to bring the machine to this level.  Are there any alternative ways to bring back the machine?

Iv had to do this once or twice now with my 750 after installing the wrong versions of some software and managed to blow the system away.  It does work you get your Z back as if its just been flashed

But it does make your palms sweat the first time.  helps if you sing the Don't brick my Z song.....
