Did I Break It?

Okay... Took a flash card and downloaded OpenZaurus and OPIE...

Took the image labeled 64-0 and renamed it "zImage" as per the instructions.
Took the opie image and renamed it "initrd.bin" as pepr the instructions.

Got both files from www.openzaurus.org ... That seems like a reliable source.

Those were the only two files on a known good 256MB SanDisk CF card.

Held down "C" and "D" and pressed Full Reset.

Both the mail and power lights were on for a few minutes, then they turned off...

Removed the Flash card, Hit Full Reset again, and closed the battery door.

My SL-5500 now says "Sharp" in red letters and has a blinking cursor in the lower right corner of the screen... No booting. Sits like that for maybe 15 minutes and then shuts down.

What'd I do wrong?

Welp, reflashed to the stock Sharp 3.13 OS-Pack rom and it went over fine...

Perhaps OpenZaurus.org's files are corrupted?

Did you check the MD5sums of the files you downloaded after you wrote them to the card?

It sounds like you got a bad file for your kernel, or the kernel didnt flash at all.

I suggest downloading again, verifing the MD5sums and filenames and then flashing again.

How do I verify MD5 sums? Is there an app that I run? (I'm using a Mac, running OS X 10.3.8)

I don't have a mac but I did stay at the Holiday Inn last night (and used google)!

The correct sums are in the 'md5sum.txt' file in the same feed as your files to check.

Found my problem...

Seems when renaming a file in Finder (Mac equiv of Explorer...) It doesn't strip extensions (Supposed to be fixed in new edition of OS X.)

So zImage was not really zImage... it was zImage.bin ... It kept the zImage-xSize-ySize.bin extension...

GPE running now... I'll try it and then try Opie...

Thanks for your help!
