Run Java Applets in Opera
« on: May 27, 2004, 12:54:18 pm »
Hello All,

Anyone know how to get Opera (7.25) to work with Java Applets? What I mean is, if you click on a web page which has a java applet embedded (such as http://www.opera.com/applets/clock/) I would like Opera to fire up Java and display the applet in Opera (or in a separate window).

TIA,

Craig...

I don\'t know if you can do so from opera, but you should be able to run them from the command line evm/cvm --appletviewer  http://... - it doesn\'t work for all.

You have to edit the .appletviewer file before you can access non local applets on the 6000.  Or you can install jeode from an older Z. Still have a problem with web sites that figure out your browser doesnt do applets and wont give you the page with the applet in it so you can copy the url.  (like the nist.gov time applet)

I guess I was looking for something a bit more automatic, that would permit Opera to fire up the cvm --appletviewer http...

Sounds like there isn\'t.

Thanks,

Is there a specific site (URL) or something so that when I get .appletviewer and such right I can know that it works?

Does opera fire up cvm on the C7xx series or does it require a symlink or something else?

Can someone explain just what has to be edited in the .appletviewer file to allow remote URL's to work?

There wasn't much in there by default, just one as I recall.  I changed it's setting but that didn't help.  It tells me that only localhost operations are allowed!

I can't verify what that setting is now as I have wedged my Sl-6000 by installing the wrong version of vnc.  I will reset it as soon as I get home and attach the AC power cable.

I think .appletviewer needs (beyond any proxies)

package.restrict.access.sun=false

Where can I find this file to edit, and does this work?

Thanks,
