If You're Having Trouble With Zaurus Importers...
« on: July 13, 2005, 08:55:42 pm »
Hey everyone. I know that there have been a lot of issues with the Zaurus C860 and the new C3000 series, and that some people have had a lot of trouble returning these to the companies they've purchased them from or even worse, receiving substandard support. As far as I know, there are no official ways to deal with greymarket importers, but if you're having issues with the company you purchased your Zaurus from, then I suggest you take it up with www.ripoffreport.com. They're great at getting results for those who have no where else to turn. At the same time, you will be warning other customers about companies that won't stand by their products.

Except when my SD-slot stopped locking, and it was definitely not covered by the warranty.
They were "nice" in that they'd take a look at it and try to fix it for free and check with me before ordering parts, but it's not acceptable.

I know an ex-importer who would've just not answered your emails.

Yeah exactly, everything's relative.

sorry, but that's not correct.
It took a moment to look up the case with only criteria "guy in the
netherlands, SL-C860, SD slot problem", but i think i picked the right one

Huh ? Why isn't it acceptable for you if we try to fix it for free ???
It seems to be a big misunderstanding, so let's look at the facts:

2-3 times a year we receive Zauris with defective SD slot mechanisms.
In these cases the ballpoint-mechanism that locks/unlocks the card is
damaged so the card don't get out or doesn't lock. This is a rare problem
and for 99% it's a user made damage cause by rough handling.

Asking the SHARP repair center in Japan about warranty would result
in a very ugly laugh. They would replace the mainboard and "fix" the
problem this way for about 200 EUR.

But luckily Robert here is a real wizard when it comes to tiny mechanical
things. So we were able to fix the mechanism in every case until now.

Now to your personal case:
You informed us about the SD slot problem and that you want to have it
fixed (covered by warranty).
Robert answered that this problem is not a warranty case (like i explained
above) and informed you that we will check your unit.
Also he pointed out that he will try to fix the mechanism for free, but if the
Zaurus has to be sent to Japan, the expected cost is about 200 EUR.
Some mails forth and back...
Last one was Friday, October 14th our confirmation of the shipping address
for service.

No response from you. No Zaurus here. No chance for us to fix it.

Sorry, but it looks a bit unfair to me if you express your dissatisfaction
with our service before you even tried it   .

Please send us your Zaurus like discussed and let us see if your SD
mechanism can be fixed. When you have your Zaurus back, you may
post your experiences with our service.
