Sl-c3100 And Wifi
« on: August 04, 2005, 11:01:52 pm »
hello there all,

i am since recently the proud owner of an sl-c3100
i am wel know with linux and other posix systems so this linux on there had to be no problem for me
well bad luck
im trying to get my wifi card going which must be running with the prism2_cs module
as quoted here ftp://ftp.linux-wlan.org/pub/linux-wlan-ng/README :

"prism2_cs   Driver for Prism2.x & Prism3  PCMCIA cards"

and i know that its an prism3 card since i also got openbsd on there and that works fine except for some sound issues
--- piece of openbsd dmesg----

wi0 at pcmcia1 function 0 "WLAN, 11Mbps_PC-Card_3.0, ISL37100P" port 0x0/64, irq 137
wi0: PRISM3 ISL37300P (0x801b), Firmware 1.1.1 (primary), 1.8.0 (station), address 00:02:6f:37:cc:bc

----end dmesg----

but i cant get that thing going on this thing with the current modules on there
i edited some file's in /etc so it would detect the cf card but no luck (yeah i restarted cardmgr :-)

so i thought lets make me some own modules so i could get that damn card to work ..
so i installed some software on my main pc so i could cross compile software
and downloaded the kernel src from an japanese site (babelfish is great for this)
but still no luck al errors about the kernel being messed up ..

then i came trough this forum and i read about people wanted to install ( and compile) software
and thats what i also want !
so ... how do i get this puppy going ? where do i get gcc or any compiler and can i work on building the kernel modules i want
or is this card already supported and am i looking with my feet ?
im new to this Z thing so i was hoping you people could help me out here
i have a lot of questions but in my opinion only japanese people who have the answers
like where can i get precompiled software (ipk's)

alright already thanks a lot and i hope for some new insights in my problem

ps sorry form my bad english its not my native language

Skeruno,

Looks like you might be running an Origo variant judging from your dmesg output.  I've just managed to get my own card configured on C3100 using the following method:

1. Plug in your card.

2. Bring up terminal and log in as root (su).

3. Type "cardctl ident"

4. From the output :
For Socket 0, copy the details of the first line after "product info :"
Mine came up with the following:
"WLAN", "11Mbps_PC-Card_3.0", "ISL37100P", "Eval-RevA"

5. Backup the file "/etc/pcmcia/wlan-ng.conf" (Just in case!)

6. Edit wlan-ng.conf and put the following at the end of the file:

card "Origo" (or some other description, not important)
version "WLAN", "11Mbps_PC-Card_3.0", "ISL37100P", "Eval-RevA" (or ident for your card if different)
bind "prism2_cs"

7. Save and exit file and reboot your unit.

8. Go through the Network wizard to auto detect the card and complete your network details.

Eventually worked for me, so I hope it helps!
