Blupdater Options?
« on: August 03, 2005, 05:00:42 am »
Hi,

Yesterday I installed the new blupdater and flashed several linux based images to see if they can replace wince (on a simplad sl4). While I was quite pleased with the opie images, every image had its problems -- some of them (e.g. missing cf card in 0.9rc1) are described in other threads.

Anyway, I flashed the images provided by Frédéric Devernay at http://devernay.free.fr/hacks/opensimpad/20050620/ two times. The light image worked the first time but I then replaced it with some other image for some reason (the buttons). But after flashing the light image a second time I always get stuck on startup during stepping through the configuration wizard. At step 2 or so the dialog suddenly vanishes and I have an empty screen. When I reset the opie desktop appears but the tap screen doesn't work (it appears to be a callibration problem as some taps are registered but totally out of place). As the buttons don't work either on a freshly flashed image, I'm somehow stuck.

So, I'm wondering if this behaviour could be triggered by some leftovers from a previous install. If so, my question is: how can I make sure that the ram & flash gets properly erased. "eflash root" doesn't quite work.

Or: Is there a solution to the CF-Card problem? With access to the cf-card I think the 0.9cr1 image would be ok too.

Cheers,
Thomas.

tml, I'm with you on the images ... they are pretty impressive on the whole. Unfortunately, one or two problems in the images made me flash back to CE.NET 4.1.

I really applaud the folks who give their time and effort (and money!!) to work out these builds. Too bad my present situation does not allow me to dwell deeper into helping with the development work than I wish to.

As for the behaviour you had, I believe it should not be a leftover issue, though leftover issue do plague the flashing of ROM from opensim to ce (or was it the other way round?)

Well, it worked once so it's not the image as such causing the callibration problem.

As a linux based environment provides richer opportunities to do some hacking I would definitely prefer it over ce.net. Although a x11 based solution would be best of course.

I'm definitely with you on the opportunities and I remain hopeful for future builds. For now, the SL4 is in 4.1 image and remaining so. As it is, it meets my simple needs of ebook reading, PIM and rather light web browsing.
