Intellisync With Oz 3.5.3 And Act And Other Issues
« on: August 08, 2005, 03:21:26 pm »
Okay, here's my situation, a bunch of questions.

SL5500 running OZ3.5.3 from an sdcard (image file) using the root pivot scripts. Desktop is Win2k.  Have the same setup for my giflfriend but her Z is running Sharp Rom 3.10.

On my GF's machine she can sync fine against the palm desktop from her old Palm V. However she has to run intellisync as an admin, otherwise works fine using USB - TCP/IP - Advanced setup.

My Win2k machine is similar, I can adjust the synchronization settings only as admin and same for running intellisync.  I have Internet Connection sharing enabled on my desktop, so I can ssh into the Z and get internet access for the Z. This all works fine.

My Z is set to 192.168.0.2 and the SL network adaptor is set to 192.168.0.1, intellisync communications settings/zaurus manager have been set to 192.168.0.2

Synchronization of the Z is not working though. I've gone into the security applet and told it that I use intellisync. However when I try to sync I get the following errors pop up on the win2k machine.

First dialog pops up saying "preparing to process records", then within a second:

An error has occured while trying to connect to the Zaurus.

Please remove the Zaurus from the cradle or serial cable and reconnect.
Wait approximately 30 seconds before initialing the synchronization.

Please verify that the PC Link application settings on the Zaurus match the Zaurus
   Manager settings on the PC.

I click ok, next box comes up saying "unable to complete request"

Removing the Z from the cradle and placing it back in makes no difference.

Related to this, since I don't use Outlook or the Palm Desktop generally, does anyone know of any 3rd party syncing s/w that will work against an ACT 4.0 or 2000 database?  I also have access to Goldmine, ver 6.x IIRC, however I'd prefer to just stick with ACT! I currently use the full version of Intellisync for my Palm IIIxe to sync against Act, however I am hoping to dump the Palm and use the Z exclusively.

Now that my Socket Low Power CF ethernet card just arrived today, I may dump the ICS stuff and do everything over the network.

Lastly, I am looking at buying one of these Serial IO GPS receivers

http://www.serialio.com/products/adaptors/GPS_BR305_Z6.htm

Just wondering if anyone is using it with OZ3.5.3 or will I be only able to use it with a Sharp Rom.

Speaking of which, can I use the root pivot scripts to boot off a sharp rom stored as an image file in my sdcard?

OZ needs to use the older version of IntelliSync (the one which came with the 2.xx 'ROM's); you can't sync using the version which would be used for Sharp 'ROM' 3.10.

The GPS looks fine - I also have a serial GPS and it works fine with OZ.

Ahh, that explains it, I'll install the old version of intellisync and see what happens. Should I use the old USB driver that comes with the old intellisync or will it work fine with the driver from the version with the 3.10 sharp rom?

Which GPS do you have? Why'd you chose that one? Are you using a special serial adaptor to hook it up to your Z?

I am also trying to get my Zaurus to sync with Act!

I have Act 6.0 and the C3000, have you made any progress on this yet?

Thanks
Chris

Use the old version of the USB driver too.

It's a Haicom 203e, it comes with a serial cable, and I have a serial cable for my Z, so all I needed was to make (or buy) a null-modem adaptor.

I went for a serial modem as I've no desire to have to have my Zaurus exposed at all times (which would be necessary with a CF GPS), this way I can set it to log/etc. and stick it in a bag, or I can attach the GPS somewhere convenient in my car and leave the Z on the passenger seat, etc. Just generally easier imo.

How do you power the unit? Especially for long car trips?  I have the 303MMF coming next week, it has a built in battery, but it's not obvious how long the battery will last since I'll be using it in in serial mode instead of CF mode.  The downloadable manual has no info on this.

I do see various kits on the Haicom site to charge the PDA while using GPS, but they don't have a kit for the Zaurus....

Hmm, I wonder if I can use the PSP Power Brick to power the gps unit....

It requires external power anyway, and comes with a cable, so I hooked up an external 9V feed iirc (I've not looked at it in a long while as I've been busy with other things).

OK finally figured a way to get Act! to sync with my C3000.

The C3000 can sync with the palm desktop, so set it up that way.

THEN

Get a copy of Companion Link Pro http://www.handango.com/PlatformProductDet...&productId=4928

It will sync multiple databases, including Act!

Now it takes me a few syncs because Companion Link Pro runs when you sync your palm, but I can enter data in Act! on my desktop, My Zaurus, the Palm Desktop &/or my palm, and end up with all the entries in all of the devices!
