I have to agree - I'm now paranoid of losing that cable!  When I get an idle moment, I'll crack the dongle bit open to see what's in there.

My only complaint is that the USB cable is a separate dongle-like thing that seems easy to lose or break.

I have a Stowaway keyboard that I used with my Handspring Visor. My understanding is that this Fellowes keyboard is basically the same, but with a USB adapter ("dongle-like thing"). So I assume this means I could potentially use my Visor Stowaway with my C1000??

Does anyone know how I could get my hands on one of these adapters?

I paid $17 for the whole shebang from ebay for mine...   They're now on ebay at $20, $25 buy it now with much cheaper shipping than I paid

I doubt you'll get the dongle thingy on its own, or if you do I doubt it'll be cheaper.

Cheers,
Nick.

You can't just stick the adapter onto a different stowaway. The Fellowes is based on the same design, but it's not like it's exactly the same with just a USB cable added.

There were many people in Japan who worked to get the original folding keyboards for the palm to work with earlier models of Zaurus, but suffice it to say, it took soldering and wires and a lot of know-how, and even then the results weren't great. Given how cheap these things are now, it's not like it's a big deal to buy a new one.

Presumably shipping to France adds to the price -- and maybe duty, VAT, etc (not sure).

I already cracked mine open. I was hoping that it was just a USB cable and a couple of LEDs, that way I could just rig up a cable directly to the board. That wasn't the case, unfortunately. It had a chip inside, as well as a few supporitng compontents (capacitors and the like). Oddly the circuit card in the adapter has the connector labeled 'Visor', though the connector is not the type I remember being on friend's Visor. I'm not sure what the meaning of that is. There's enough pins going from the chip to the keyboard, that it could be a matrix decoder itself, and the keyboard with no logic what-so-ever. I don't have the chip number handy right now, or I'd post that.
