OpenZaurus ROM 3.2 with Ericsson R520m using infrared
« on: February 25, 2004, 10:01:03 am »
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could help me get my Ericsson R520m cellphone working with the open zaurus rom (version 3.2) using infrared? I upgraded from the sharp rom (version 2.38) with which it works perfectly. I had originally tried the newer Sharp roms but sadly it seems even with the latest 3.13 version it still doesn\'t work.

I had a play with the sample Nokia script on the openzaurus website and sure enough it does connect through my Ericsson. The only problem seems to be that I cannot seem to do anything with it ie go to web pages etc so I guess I am missing something somewhere?

If someone has got this phone or the similar Ericssons (ie T39 etc) working with openzaurus I\'d be grateful if they could show me their scripts!

With the Sharp rom I just used the GUI applet so this is the first time I am playing with ppp scripts.

Thanks for any help in advance,

Conrad

I presume it dials but doesn\'t actually log you in?

Have you stuck your password and username in pap-secrets and/or chap-secrets (in /etc/ppp)?

lardman,

Thanks for the reply. Sadly it looks like any advice might be irrelavent now as my Sharp looks like its turned into a \'brick\'. I was reflashing back to ROM 2.38 temporarily. Done this many times before. Everything seemed to be fine as the 2 LED\'s were on as they should be. They then turned off after a while as expected. I then found the Zaurus didn\'t seem to power up at all. I have checked the Power supply and it seems to be working fine and have tried all the suggestions on this board to revive it, but so far nothing has worked.

Are the utility and/or maintenance menus contained in the main flash ROM or should they still be accessible should the main ROM be corrupt somehow? I have tried all the various key combinations, battery out etc but not a peep.

Oh well if I can\'t bring my zaurus back to life, then I guess I\'ll be exiting the Zaurus world as I just got this as a plaything from Best Buy back when they getting rid of stock for $250!

I presume you\'ve hit hard reset. I seem to remember that someone had some luck by leaving the battery out for a while (a few days). I hope you can get it working again.

I have hit every button and combination I can think of! This is so annoying as I am very careful when flashing. Still there is a first time for everything I guess. I\'ll try that last suggestion as well. Thanks.

Well I left battery out for a few hours and retired it. Still nada, ie no green light or anything. Just can\'t get a display to come up with hard reset and d/c keys or d/p or d/m keys! Even if the ROM was corrupt shouldn\'t I still get a green charging light? Is the \'flash program\' part of the ROM? If this is the case and the ROM got corrupted, does this mean it would be impossible to reflash now?

Thanks.

The lights don\'t necessarily come on. They are controlled programatically by the Z rather than being attached to a circuit.

The flashing program is contained in the ospack along with the initrd.bin and zimage which you\'re familiar with from using OZ. Ie. flashing just an initrd.bin & zimage doesn\'t touch the flashing software.

oh dear! As I was flashing an ospack which you say contains the flashpack, then if it somehow got corrupted, I guess this means my Zaurus is toast since it can\'t reflash anything without it. I am leaving the battery out over the weekend to drain the internal battery as a last resort but my guess is, at this stage, that it\'s done for. Thanks for the help anyway.

I\'m not sure how it would have become corrupted, you said the flash process proceeded as per the norm.

You might try reformatting the card (to cover all the bases) and trying to flash OZ (if the OSPACK was corrupted hopefully the flashing software was written correctly and it\'s just a screwed up zImage which is causing the troubles, hopefully).

I have tried to do the flash procedure to see what happens ie D+C+full reset but no lights come on at all. Can it still be flashing even if they do not  come on?

It\'s within the bounds of possibility (just).

I\'d leave it for 30min (to be sure that the flash has finished) then hit hard reset, cross your fingers, stick the back on and see whether it\'ll start.
