Xp Cannot Detect Zaurus C860 On Usb
« Reply #15 on: July 19, 2006, 10:02:51 am »
Two things occur to me:

Check the security settings are working correctly - there should be an open ftp server on port 4242.

I'm not sure whether the sync software requires that the Zaurus be on 192.168.129.201 ...

« Reply #16 on: October 02, 2006, 07:19:17 pm »
Si,
Taking up your recent advice, i decided to revisit my Z networking woes. However, I have encountered a new problem.

With reference to previous post on this thread, I was then able to get my XP to detect my Z on its USB port.

Now, even that fails! The RNDIS connection is not even established anymore. I checked under Computer Management on XP and the device is certainly invisible to XP. I did a modprobe g_ether, still nothing was detected.

Ifconfig -a shows usb0 is up. I m inclined to pin it down to a faulty usb cable.

However, the power supply through the cable seems ok as the orange light is still burning. Though I have noticed that it goes off after a while. Is that the sign of a faulty cable? Before I proceed to go out and by a new one, I was hoping if anyone could help me troubleshoot this just to confirm that the problem does not lie with my Z. Or perhaps XP is the problem? Anyway, of finding out?

Many thanks and I must say I really appreciate your patience in dealing my Z woes!

Just to add.. lsmod shows g_ether but on the used by column, it shows 0 if that should mean something. I have a feeling that its a windoze xp problem.

Thanks again guys!

Been up all nite trying to figure out whats wrong. Just a little further to add.
Doing an ifup usb0
and then a dmesg

I get
ADDRCONF (NETDEV_UP): usb0: link is not ready

However, in Network Settings usb0 seems to be up. So does ifconfig -a

I am at the end of my wits here on trying to figure out what has changed since that has caused things to stop working.

I really hope somebody have an idea. Thanks again guys!

No idea I'm afraid, I don't have a charging usb cable.

It might be worth rebooting your Zaurus and re-modprobing the g_ether module to be sure that it's not on the Zaurus side, otherwise I don't know.

Sorry,

Hmm, I didn't realise that this was a widespread thing...

PXA255 machines should work. (PXA270 machines may not. FYI see my posts in this thread: https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=20859&hl=)

Regarding PXA255 machines, make sure you've installed the linux.inf driver so that your 2.6.x kernel version'd Zaurus can be recognised: https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showt...169&#entry73169

Grog, your problem may be a routeing error: https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showt...ndpost&p=138352

I've tried reflashing, rebooting and even update libusb, even with modprobe g_ether.. doesn't look like my XP is able to detect my Z anymore through usb. I've even tried on other computers and none of them detects my Z. Ironic, that its used to be able to and i was able to get a ndis connection installed. I guess it must just leave me with perhaps its hardware problem or cable problem?

Thanks again guys!

I've not flashed the latest OZ image, let me do that and I'll see whether I can track it down using my C750 (also PXA255). It may be that the RNDIS mode for the PXA255 has also been broken. Eeergh!

Sorry it's taken a while.

I flashed the latest official GPE image last night on my C750 (version 3.5.4.1).

To cut the story short, I had no problems establishing a connection. I used the following steps (on a new computer, hence the delay).

1. Attach usb cable to Zaurus and plug into WinXP
2. modprobe g_ether on the Zaurus
3. Windows then detects device (ifconfig on the Zaurus is not showing the connection at this time as it's not been brought up yet)
4. Point Windows at the Linux.inf file, say yes to the installation dialog(s)
5. ifup usb0 on the Zaurus, note the IP address is 192.168.0.202
6. Alter connection settings on Windows XP to give the adaptor an address of 192.168.0.201
7. Ping works and telnet to port 22 tells me that dropbear is running there.

QED.
