Recording Tv To Pc, Then Transfer To Av500
« on: January 31, 2006, 11:29:18 am »
I'm considering buying an AV500 and need some help with the topic of getting TV onto the device.

For various reasons, I don't think I want to set it up to record directly off the TV.

How about the following:

1. Buy a TV tuner card for the PC (like a cheap ATI TV Wonder Pro PCI TV Tuner Card
-- the AV500 is expensive enough!).

2. Use the features of the card to schedule and report to PC hard drive.

3. Use whatever techniques available from converting and transferring the recorded shows from the PC to the AV500.

Does this make sense? Is anybody doing something similar?

Thanks

It does make sense but most people do not like to meddle with software conversion. It's also double job having to record and then convert unless the TV Tuner you're eyeing comes with softwares that allows recording from sleep or hibernating mode.

Direct recording allows a resolution of 640x480 @ 30 f/s whereas software conversion could go higher. If you're gonna watch video from TV out via Archos then it's better to convert via PC. But then again if the TV you're gonna watch on is no bigger than 25" CRT than there's really no benifit to convert in higher resolution.
