Using Ttf Fonts On The Zaurus
« on: June 04, 2005, 03:18:53 am »
I know it's been asked before, but I searched and searched and found no definitive answer.

Is there a way to use ttf (truetype) forts on the Zaurus without converting them to qpf by using makeqpf?

I need chinese fonts in many sizes for reading and writing, and the qpfs are HUGE...

So am trying to find a better way...

Yes. You will need the freetype plugin, and libfreetype, depending on what rom you are using.

Can you help me on this a bit?

Following up on your reply I've searched for freetype and libfreetype.

I use Cacko 1.22...

I've found the [a href=\"http://bryandeluca.com/cacko/feed/libfreetype_6.3.4-1_arm.ipk]http://bryandeluca.com/cacko/feed/libfreet...6.3.4-1_arm.ipk[/url] however can't locate the freetype plugin.

The only references I've seen of freetype are in association with qpdf.

Where can I get the plugin? And how will I then use the fonts in say Hancom Word or so...?

Thank you.

Right, I've found your page with instructions, downloaded opie-freetype...

But it seems it doesn't work under Cacko... At least I installed it, copied in the font, modified the fontdir file, rebooted, but nothing.

So seems no way?

Is there a definite answer to this question?  Can ttf fonts be used under Sharp Rom or its derivatives (e.g., Cacko) without converting them to qpf?

If the answer is yes, please provide the details on how to do it and whether it is worth the trouble.
SL-C3100 (from PriceJapan.com): modified Sharp Rom (couldn't make Japanese input work in Cacko Rom)

aki, that would be cool if I could do the converting on a windows comp. I have 3 full sets of CorelDraw! (ver 2, 3 & 7) with thousands of fonts included in these packages. They are all TTF and type1 fonts.

I don't think you can do the conversion under Windows.  But if you don't have access to a linux box, you could consider booting a linux cd distro, like Knoppix or Slax.  No install required.
Thousands of fonts -- hope you have lots of storage and much patience!

you could also convert the fonts on your Zaurus directly. Have a look on my website on how you can do that.

Thank you for your replys. Regarding the CorelDraw fonts, I would only use the ones that I consider my favorites. There is no way I would convert them all. On the CorelDraw 4 CD, there are 750 ttf and 750 type1 fonts. I mentioned earlier, I had CorelDraw 2 & 3. I meant 3 & 4
