860 Power On Problem
« on: December 24, 2005, 07:07:29 am »
Got a C860 with Cacko 1.23 ROM installed when I got it.

It has a problem in that it will run on the battery for more hours than I have tested, > 4 hours, and it will run while power is connected. If I leave it off for some time without the power applied then it will not turn on again until power is applied. If I remove and replace the battery it starts to boot but will power itself off before a full boot is acheived.

The battery voltage seems to be OK, I removed it and measured it and it is greater than 4 volts when this happens.

If I apply power and turn it on all is fine but if I remove the power within the first two minutes or so it will power off and won't come on but if I leave it for more than two minutes then remove power it stays on and will run on the battery. It is behaving as though the battery is knackered except that even just 3 minutes on mains and it will run on battery until I turn it off with the battery showing 90% or more 10 minutes after I remove the power.

It's all a little odd.

I wanted to put PDAXROM on but can't download it at the moment for whatever reason.

Anyone suffered similar problem and can anyone tell me if it's the ROM or a hardware fault or suggest some diagnosis to perform in order to tie the problem down a bit.

Bit more info

If it is fully charged and not on the charger then when I turn it on it comes on as expected but goes off after about 2 seconds. It then sits there dead for 25 seconds and comes on again without me touching anything, from then on it works normally.

I can live with it now I know what makes it tick but it sure is weird having to wait half a minute for it to work normally. I'll try the Pdaxrom when the feeds work again.

It's the same on mine. It is the backlight turning off. Use the keyboard to turn it up.

It only happens if you have minimum setting stored.

hey yes. that does help, on mine. mine does it only though when i have the backlight at minimum and i turn the screen into tablet mode. otherwise never. but my friend's zaurus is different, it does that more often  (and i'm not sure that trick helps there but i'll ask..)
