Advantages To Upgrading To A 3200?
« on: June 27, 2006, 08:52:04 am »
Hi,

I have a sl-860 at the moment running Cacko and am considering the upgrade to a sl-3200, partly for the storage and also the increase in speed.

Is there much of a difference in speed, I would ideally like to be able to watch movies/tv episodes on the machine (hence the 6gb sounds appealing) and the 860 still isn't quite upto it.

What sort of performance jump does it have over the 860?

Is it worth spending the money?

Cheers

The direct performance jump is big, but not earthshaking.  (Yes, I'm well aware I have neither. But when Cortana started to fall to pieces I did alot of research.) On the other hand, the PXA270 in the 3200 can be clocked from 416 to 520 or 624 mhz, for a big speedjump.

Yeah, the hard disk would be quite cool to have. XD

Note also the additional features from the 860 such as USB host, which can be useful for storing movies and stuff on for watching in hotels etc.

It's worth the money if you'll use it. But also remember, Quitting the X desktop and playing in mplayer will also speed it up. XP
Cortana: PXA250/Poodle: OZ/GPE 3.4.2RC1
Tycho PXA270/HTC_Universal WM5  .30.107/1.09.00/42.42.P8/1.30.162
HollyWatch: Fossil AU5005 - POS 4.1.2

Overclocking the 3200 causes alot a unstability/crashes and I would recommend not doing it.
