sh: can\'t locate devinfo

a couple of root prompts later and viola, we have a warranty problem.

after maintenenance menu, and ALL choices   explored... the machine will not boot

Fk((&.  This was just too much trouble and just a waste of 500 dollars cash.

I had fun for about 70 hours of trying to make it work... right.

and with my previous experiences with japanese I MEAN PANASONIC co\'s I know right now this route wont get me anywhere other than a 90$ repair bill.

any advice would appreciated, but please dont be so stupid as to tell me to read the howtos.

the 5600 with pxa2500 is way worse than the sl5000 because atleast there is some SOFTWARE written for it!

THE 5600 is a piece of shit

There\'s now a 50/50 chance that you\'ve totally bricked your Zaurus, you can however try a NAND flash restore. I don\'t know what the procedure is for reflashing a NAND backup on the 5x00 series but for the C7x0 Series (I have a C760) the procedure involves putting a 130MB file on a CF card and there\'s an option in the maintenance menu to do a NAND FLASH RESTORE.

You will need a 256MB or bigger CF card (see if you have a friend you can borrow one from). I\'m sure someone will continue from here as this is going into realms I have no experience in.

What did you actually do before your Z started playing up? Assuming it wasn\'t a flash then I wouldn\'t worry about it being \'bricked\' as you can always re-flash it.

Lardman,

I tried the oz 336-pre and that gave me a root solely.  I wasnt really in the mood to play with the command line since I was looking for a decent gui... anyway, I ended up trying to flash 335, then the latest sharp rom.

NOW  the powerup button (CANCEL) does absolutely NOTHING.

I CAN atleast get into the Maintenance menu ...

If I go through the update by USB choices it will provide a kernel error message saying something like
modprobe: cant locate devinfo ... or something like that.

it can  reflash the ROM

BUT... when I try to reformat it goes dead.   :x

That\'s it! thats all this little sucker does.

Foxdie, there is no Nand option on the 5600 Maintenenace menu, so I guess Im screwed??!!??

You shouldn\'t have to mess around with the NAND stuff (That\'s on the Services menu anyway).

Have you tried flashing by CF card using the Linux user instructions and files from here: http://www.myzaurus.com/ROMupdate6.asp ?

BTW, did you read this: http://openzaurus.org/official/unstable/3....00/README.FIRST ?

From what I read you can still use maint. menu?

Do a hard reset (do not flash) and bring up maint. menu, select format and this should restore it to Sharp rom.
