Archos Av700
« on: April 23, 2006, 02:28:24 pm »
Basicly I've owned every movie player Archos has made.  JMB20, av120,av140,av320(modded to 380),av480(modded to 100gb),PMA430, gmini400,av500 and av700.  I'm currently using my av700 and wouldl ike to upgrade the unit with my 100gb Toshiba Hard drive.  I've tried 2 other drives. A hitachi travelstar 80gb and a 100gb samsung.  I have tried several methods to get the Archos to recognize it but have failed.  I tried letting the archos format it and load the AVOS...failed.  I formatted a unformated drive and left the drive bare no folders and put the AVOS on it.....Failed.  also i have left the original drive in and while the unit was on swaped the drives and told the device to update avos while the 100gb was installed, it updated but upon restarting said the same message "hard drive error  hard drive not recognized" I'm thinking i need the full version avos file that the av700 came with to do this and have not found it yet, only the upgrades.  If any of you have any insight to my problem or know what i'm doing wrong it would be greatly appreciated, i've never ran into this problem before and it seems they have actually locked it from being upgraded.  I also contacted Newmp3technology, and they had no info for me and said they only support replacing the drive with the same size one.  I contacted archos and they would not even talk to me they said "we do not support this type of use" and wouldn't tell me the maker of there drives or anything.  So if you know what to do please help me out thank you!

The FAQ states we aren't allowed to change drives. Voids the warranty and all that.

I just tried this with my Archos AV700, and it didn't work. I used a utility to do a byte-for-byte copy of the original hard drive onto another 100 GB drive. I was hoping this would work for insurance. I've had one with a faulty hard drive already, and I was hoping to be able to store an image of the orignal hard drive in case it needs replacing.

When you got yours to work, did you use the same model hard drive? What firmware revision did you use?  Anything else anyone can tell me on this would help a bunch! Thanks in advance!
