Two questions...number one is if keyhelper will work on my sl5500. If not, I'm hoping someone with better skills than I've got will be interested in porting it.
I tried looking at the Japanese page, and no sl5xxx series was mentioned, and I couldn't tell the filename of the most recent version, so I just downloaded the one I had a specific URL for:
keyhelperconf_0.3.0-1_arm.ipk
The Sharp GUI Package installer on my sl5500 didn't recognize keyhelperconf, but I was able to install it easily from the command line.
And, after a soft reset, there even is a GUI for it. However, it doesn't seem to know where my keyboard is. I can tap on the boxes and get the cursor to move, and get check-marks to appear, but can't make any keyboard entries.
I did, BTW, put the keyhelperconf.xml file in my Settings directory that I found here ...but trying both with and without it didn't make any difference.
Does that means it needs to be ported for sl5xxx machines, or could I ignore the GUI, knowing it will work okay just from editing the xml file? Do NOT want to try it now as it sounds like it could royally mess up the old keymappings (which I do not want to change) if I don't know what I'm doing and I have no other computer access to get back and ask for help.
Number two is a question about what to put in my keyhelperconf.xml file to make it so that certain 3-key sequences will give me the characters I want. I don't want to change any preexisting keys, just add some new definitions.
I read Stubear's Intro here a few times and I got too lost and confused to feel comfortable writing my own keyhelperconf.xml file. Of course, that is probably because the intro was geared for Japanese keyboards...
Anyhow, I think it would be really neat to add some new keymapping to my sl5500, as follows, without eliminating any old ones.
I would like to use the undefined sequence
[ Fn ] + [ Z ] to signal the added codes, since there is no predefined function on the sl5500 for [ Fn ] + [ Z ] (at least with the Sharp ROM).
I want typing the following 3-key sequences to yield the following results:
Sequence Result
------- -----
Fn z bkspc [ (hard to enter as is)
Fn z / \ (backslash)
Fn z ' ` (backtick)
Fn z a Ctrl-A
Fn z b Ctrl-B
Fn z c Ctrl-C
....and so on through.....
Fn z z Ctrl-Z
I picked the slash key for backslash and apostrophe or single quote for the backtick to make the mappings easy to remember. The [ ctrl ] + [ shift ] + [ a-z ] alternatives would make it easier to enter commands in apps like pine that require these three-key combinations.
I downloaded the unicode charts, and found the code for the backslash to be 005C but didn't see the back tick, unless it's what they called a 'down tack' with code 22A4. But can't do the coding all by myself.... anyone up for helping me with the coding? I go cross-eyed every time I look at the instructions.
Thanks,
